No u need to use the metal fire pits. This is required. You can get banned for life. But there are lots of them.

If they provide a burn pit is is expected you will keep ypur fires contained in that unit. I sometimes set my fire grill over the burn pit so im not killing grass or making a mess outside it the designated burn areas.
