Greeted by a helpful and friendly host. Quiet and peaceful setting. Stayed two nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Took off one afternoon and drove to Stuart for the beach and lunch on the river walk. Picnic tables, fire ring, clean hot showers and toilets. Great free camping.

What a great find, this place is free as long as you register beforehand. The site will let you know if there is space available and the camp spots are first come first serve. What a great find, this place is free as long as you register beforehand. The site will let you know if there is space available and the camp spots are first come first serve. Upon arrival you will need to unlock the gate (code in confirmation email) and lock it behind you. The camp host is the first spot when you get to the camping area. Check in with her and go find a spot, it’s that easy! This place is beautiful, quiet, clean and free! You can stay here up to 30 days a year with a 24 hour break between 8 day stents. Completely primitive camping but there are real showers and bathrooms on site. There is also a water spigot at the entrance.

That being said, I highly appreciate being able to camp on public land for free in the USA. I don't believe in paying to occupy and undeveloped piece of land (which this is not).

We have paid a fair amount of money for sites not quite as good as this. We had to cut our stay short because of some generator issues but plan to return. We have paid a fair amount of money for sites not quite as good as this. We had to cut our stay short because of some generator issues but plan to return. The campground has easy access off good roads, and unlike some Water Preserve sites, not a long lane to get to the camping area. We had some minor check-in issues--make sure to look at the most updated version of your permit to get the correct combination. We also had only 1 vehicle marked though we had both our RV and our chase car. The host said to check 2 in that case, though the form does not make that clear. The host also said he prefers printed permits, though the website allows for writing out information by hand. However, I consider these pretty small items. With a beautiful view of Lake Okeechobee a few miles away, access to clean water and a dump station, and easy access to well-maintained showers, I can't imagine a free site getting much better than this.

The campground is very nice. Fire pits, picnic tables, hot showers and restrooms, lots of hiking available in the area, bicycling, hunting, fishing. I will definitely go back to this campground.

Lots of noise from the road the grounds could be kept up a little better..Real sticklers for parking I the correct place even though not all are clear..Didn’t use the restrooms everyone raves about in all a nice stay.

I am the obnoxious host that the Antiguehippies speak of. If being direct is obnoxious then I am guilty as charged but let me tell you what really happened. This couple arrived in their motor home for a 2 day stay and were directed as to where they could and could not park by my husband who talked to her husband. They were parked in the open field with shade for a full day. When we returned from grocery shopping the next morning, I observed that they had moved their 30+ foot motor home into the Tents/Van/Car Camper Only area. It’s true, the tent area is not clearly marked, however, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that one of these things is not like the other. The reason for this is that tent campers do NOT have the luxury of a kitchen, bathroom and table. Open burning is allowed at Dupuis so taking one of the “tent” sites with a fire ring and picnic table takes away the opportunity for a “tenter” to have a way to cook and eat. I initially addressed her husband, however, he did not wish to be the bearer of bad news and asked me to talk to his wife. She is correct, I told her to move and move now. I do not have time to tell grown people to do the very thing they know they were not supposed to be doing in the first place! Not once did I ever yell at her husband. Having said all that we met some awesome guests and this is our first negative review. My name is Jo and I am the obnoxious camphost who served 20 years in the Army and 17 in Law Enforcement. Maybe that’s where the reviewer confuses direct with obnoxious.
