We were looking for a place to stay that would be convenient to explore Chicken. We’re self-contained in our 25-foot MH and don’t use the facilities. We stayed on a weeknight in late August. Downtown Chicken (the establishment) allows free primitive (no hookups) RV parking behind their building in a mostly level dirt parking lot with picnic tables. There’s an outhouse on the other side of the building from the parking. The location is convenient to visit everything in Chicken. There were 3 other RVs during our stay. There’s no cell service in Chicken. Downtown Chicken includes a café, bar, liquor store, gift shop. The post office is interesting and close to a mine exhibit. There are additional gift shops and museum exhibits to visit.
As noted in another review... the access stars are for access from the Taylor Highway, NOT the Taylor Highway. There's no power in Chicken other than generators, so some noise, although not at night.
dsvt would stay here again

Chicken is a hidden gem in Alaska and one not to miss....the gold mine kind of gem. The Downtown Chicken was our home for 2 nights at no charge in their gravel parking behind the cafe. The Downtown Chicken has a small cafe serving some of the best breakfast, lunch and dinner in town. The Chicken Creek Saloon offers the only liquor in 80 miles so is quite the place to visit in the evenings. Ask Max the bartender/owner about his Alaskan Tea inquire about the cannon on the bar. Be sure to look for our sticker on the jukebox as well. There is also a liquor store on sight to buy some booze to take on your journey and stop in at their gift shop with everything Chicken related imaginable inside. Cabins available on site to rent for the night and they will even show you how to gold pan for a small fee onsite. We hope you will enjoy Chicken as much as we did. They only thing bad about Chicken is the drive up there... but its worth it.
Access rating because the Taylor Highway is a tough one on rigs. Blame ADOT.
Location rating because it's beautiful. But again it's tough to get here.
Susan has a great business and it is kept up nice for a mining town.
Site quality... needs work but they are working on it.
Noise rating because they have to run a generator during daylight hours. Chicken has no power plant so everyone runs generators. The business generator goes off around midnight and turns back on around 5am.
Do not expect phone service unless you have a satellite phone. Didn't get signal until the Alcan 60 miles south.
PauHanaTravels would stay here again
