“Absolute chaos--squatters ruined our weekend.”

Douglas Falls is a beautiful place to camp, picnic and enjoy nature. That being said, before you go--be aware (especially for overnight camping) that the host is often not on site which creates a free-for-all environment. We camped for the weekend and were subjected to a large group of degenerates who played blaring music at all hours, screaming and fighting constantly, had a vicious dog NOT ON A LEASH that kept us from visiting the falls and going to certain areas of the campground and although there was a burn ban in place, had several campfires over the weekend. I went to use the bathroom early in the morning and when I opened the door was met face to face with a pitbull baring his teeth and growling--which was the last straw. Since we didn't have cell service, had to drive 3 miles to call the Sheriff----who showed up 2 hours later but did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING and drove away without even talking to me! If you have an emergency here, you are ON YOUR OWN. The campground host's daughter happened to be there cleaning and called the DNR--who showed up and was extremely professional and concerned about the situation but the offending campers conveniently stayed away until after he left so the chaos continued--(actually got worse). Our last night there the noise, music, fighting and screaming got so bad we had to pack up our entire site in the dark and move across the creek to another spot about 1/2 mile away but could STILL hear them. The campers causing all the trouble didn't even have a Discover Pass (so were squatting there for free) but were allowed to break every rule, put us in danger and ruin our weekend because no one was there to enforce the rules.

“Sweet little Campground with Beautiful Falls”

We stayed in our car, there were plenty of sites that looked big enough for RVs, though. There was a lower loop that was closed at the time (early season, late April I want to say) & they were in the process of putting in new water spigots. The lower loop had a bridge that looked small, probably too small for an RV but it looked like it led to more tent camping sites. Our spot faced the road on one side, with 2 houses down a ways with cows mooing & all. It wasn't terribly loud there but there were definitely periods of louder traffic noise from the road. There were maybe 2 or 3 other campers at the time, including a nice couple of older ladies touring America. We helped open their can of tuna, with a bottle opener. Fun times.
The falls looked beautiful. I was able to get very close to the water, and shot a few pictures I may upload later.

All in all, this campground is definitely nice to stop at, have a picnic, maybe stay a night or two, and at the end, always, always remember to PICK UP AFTER YOURSELF. :)
