Think twice about taking any large rigs into the canyon (I can't stress this enough). A car or truck with decent clearance will get you to a few campsites.
The positives.... beautiful scenery, plenty of hiking, nature watching, just awesome geology and in late April very few people. Some were camping, some riding ATV's, a couple on horseback.
No T mobile cell service in the canyon area. I walked 3 miles up the hills with my dogs for the exercise and scenery. The reward was cell service and a brief moment of contact with the outside world.
I recommend this area if you are a tent , truck or van camper.

“Isolated and very off-grid meaning I had to use my DeLorme InReach satellite device to communicate.”

The two previous reviewers made their approach from the south. I heeded the advice of one and approached from the north via H Road. My return trip home is along US-2 so that advice was easy enough to heed. From H Road the passage, although gravel, is maintained and pothole free. Be prepared for dust. I am still wiping dust from surfaces both in my RV and my Jeep). I stayed for two nights (5 and 6 September). Although I did the leapfrog routine with my dinghy tow upon emerging, I decided that the canyon was not as steep or that part of the road as long as I thought I remembered meaning I probably could have made my emergence with my Jeep attached.
Once I made it to US-2, I realized the dust was actually smoke and I was eating smoke from fires to the north. I became aware that US-2 to the east was closed so I had to retreat back to the NCW Fairgrounds in Waterville where I stayed for 3 more nights. Although the fairgrounds normally cost $20, I was looked upon as a refugee so I was allowed to stay at no charge.

You have to continue on down a rough and twisty two track that is filled with spring water up to 2 feet deep in places. On the Palisades entrance, we were denied access one mile from the camping area by what looked like a front end loader bucket-scooped trench in the dry wash creek bed that was filled with 3 feet of water! Property owners around the area are not keen to you attempting to use their access points to get there. Honestly, I believe locals are sick of partiers in their back yard and are trying their best to keep people away.

I enjoyed camping here, since I was in a 4x4 SUV. However, you would not be able to get an RV into Douglas Creek. Right after entering, there is a huge mound of dirt in the road. I can't tell whether it was put there or is just a result of so many ORVs going back there, but I couldn't even get my SUV over it. Fortunately, there was a flat camping spot right before the mound, but even that required a climb up a pretty steep hill.
All of the land along the road (Slack Canyon Road) up to Douglas Creek is private property, and there isn't a good turnaround anywhere near Douglas Creek. I wouldn't try to drive to this area with an RV.
Edit: It looks like there are two different ways to get into Douglas Creek. I went via Palisades Road (off of Hwy 28) and Slack Canyon Road. The BLM site (actual link: https://www.blm.gov/visit/douglas-creek; the above link does not work) directions say to take H Road, off of Highway 2 east of Waterville. It may be that the access off of H Road is more RV-friendly.
