Campsite was very clean and spacious. Beautiful area, we will definitely be returning, and the Donkeys were friendly as well! I am sure the summers are extremely busy, so this time of the year is perfect for those who enjoy less congestion, but they are looking for a nice area to camp.

Second time at this lake and both times it has been clean and quiet with friendly people. I think most camp sites have a view of the water. Facilities were clean and the hookups easy and appropriately placed. Lots of space to walk the dogs.

Had wild Burros roaming the area which was cool they would bray all night long and if given the opportunity will steal food off your picnic table at night so don’t leave anything out-they got into my husbands zipped pack to get cycling gels (who knew that burros would like those). Our campground area had no view of the lake since the water was so low. Trails were nice but crowded. On the weekend there were unsupervised children running over the entire campground being quite loud and intrusive. People start there generators up first thing in the morning but for the most part this did not bother us. Bathrooms were only cleaned once in our week stay and shower was kind of gross with lots of hair in the drain. Probably won’t return here.

Stayed for 13 nights. Idiots started their generators everyday at 6am along with their news radio at top volume! Generators didn’t shut off until midnight! Hardly got any sleep… other than the noise it’s a beautiful place, gated, safe for kids.

Too many people running generators. Smoke from all the smoldering fires just hung in the valley. If you are going to have a fire make sure it actually burns and don’t burn your trash in it. Gate to enter the park is very narrow. Came in at night which was a mistake and scraped a fender. Horrible experience, won’t come here again.

Beautiful sites right on the water. Ramada’s at the campsite, trails everywhere and clean restrooms. What more is there. The reservation system must have been created by a sadist. I would rather go through Dante’s Hell than make another reservation online there.

Weather was perfect for playing outside during the day even for February. Well maintained, clean restroom. No hookups @the site we chose. But was still really great campground. Water was nearby for the kids to toss rocks etc.. Herds of donkeys walk through the campground in the early mornings.

I usually like the smaller, more wild feeling parks but this area was so pretty we were charmed! The lake is truly stunning, almost surreal. Most of the sites have great views, perched on individual sites around hills. Each site has some space, a table with a roof and a fire pit. We were there in Jan during the week and even though they said the park was almost booked out there was no one in our section! I think people must just rent the sites they like even when they are not there. Toilets were clean and showers were free and hot. And the weather was warm!
The thing that surprised me was how big this park was. There were many sections well spread out with coded security gates. I chose the park as there was a playground. But you had to drive to the playground. However it was stunning and we had fun.
The playground was special and there was a discovery center there to teach about the history of the area too. Wildlife was fantastic! A "wild" burrow came up to our campfire and was quite friendly and determined to get food. We left our water on the table overnight only to find it on the ground the next morning, so yeah, don't leave anything out! We heard coyotes howling all over the place and saw lots of bunnies. If you like organized campsites this one was beautiful and definitely worth a stay!
The only down was the check in. Government workers again and holy hell, it took forever. They wanted to know everything about you. We changed sites and that took another 20 minutes with their computer system. But they were all nice so that was good. Another guy waiting in line with me told me in summer the line of traffic took forever to get in. You have to choose your site before you see the park which is a challenge. All the powered sites were good, the tent sites are all great, and most of the unpowered sites are fantastic too, the trick is to get the ones closer to the water or up on the hill. There are only a few duds and they are the ones with South Park Road running behind it. But even they are ok.
Definitely worth a stay!
