We stayed for 10 days as part of a slow move up the west side of the Sierras. I honestly thought Porterville was going to be a bit of a run-down farming town, but it is a growing city with most stores and amenities and is about 6-7 miles from the campground.
We spend a day up in the Sequoia National Forest. Head up the 190 from Porterville, we did the Trail of 100 Giants walk but there are many options, then complete the loop driving back through California Hot Springs. It is about 2 hours to the walk and 1.5 hours back. A must-see and being NF dogs are allowed.
We and our dogs enjoyed the stay as there is plenty of space for their walks.
Our T-Mobile coverage was on band 71 - so it needs a fairly recent phone or cell modem that works on the low band, which gave good speed. Other T-Mobile bands were not much use. For us, AT&T was by far the best signal and throughput.

I stayed on my way to LA. This is a large park which makes for good walking within the park itself. Sites are roomy and are packed dirt/sand. There are horseshoes available and creek access. The lovely scent of citrus blossoms made me swoon. People are friendly, campers and staff alike. Full hookups. Decent Verizon. There is some road noise depending on what part of the park you are in. I did not use the laundromat nor bathrooms. I enjoyed my stay here.
