To access campground you travel on a long narrow dusty gravel road. There are 2 narrow single lane bridges with no guard rails that are a bit scary. Once you reach the campground it is paved, leading to the gravel and grass camping pads. The only down thing is there is no cell coverage for telework or internet, a win if you want to escape it all.

We reserved site 15 because it looked nice in the pictures and a little further away from the others based on the map. Big mistake! That loop is more like a parking lot! Contrary to the images in the map, the adjacent site is no more than a stone’s throw away. It’s on the other side of a white line painted on the ground.

Quiet, nice size campsites, access to blue ridge parkway, biking & hiking trails. Swimming holes too! 4 miles to town. No cell signal or hook ups. Pit toilets so no showers. $5 with golden pass $10 otherwise. Great deal!

Best kept forest service campground I’ve ever stayed at. Offer 50% discount with national park pass. Clean vault toilets and you can hear the beautiful Curtis creek running. No undergrowth in the main part of the campground so not much privacy between sites, but we stayed on a Wednesday and Thursday night and had only one neighbor each time. Campground is accessible from the blue ridge parkway, although be prepared to take it VERY slow if you have a trailer. Our 15ft vintage trailer made it down just fine, just have to take your time. Overall, great experience!

If you are looking for a base to experience the Blueridge Parkway or Ashville NC, give this CG a try. Daily rate is $5 but they do give 50% discount for National Park Pass holders. We were here during the off season. We were told it is a busy CG in season. Some sites are reservable on Recreation.gov but the longer RV sites are walk-ins. There are more tent sites then RV sites. All RV sites have a tent pad.
Access is tight at some bridge crossings but we were successful in navigating the access road with a 39' 5th Wheel. Our trailer would fit in all but site 6 (which is the ADA paved site). 3 walk in RV sites back up to the creek.
No cell service on site but boosted service 3 miles from CG down entry road.
