Unfortunately, 70% of Lava Beds National Monument was burned in the Caldwell Fire which started on July 22, 2020. All dispersed camping in this area is located in a burn area.

When entering first large site on right is fully shaded and can be backed in. To back in one would need to hook a u-turn about a mile down the road. second Large site on left Also nice. Seems tight to enter. I kept going down road, stayed left at first split. Backed 26 Ft trailer into a nice site.
Cell service is sketchy. Get better bars when exiting Right from this site and driving a mile down road.

We were visiting Lava Beds and this was a great spot near the park. We were able to back our 30 foot travel trailer into the site with no problems. Bigger rigs would also fit as the parking site is quite long but you will need to back in to it. Passed Curren #1 on the way in and it seems like a smaller site although we didn't drive in to it. Lots of sun for the solar and the campsite does have shade from trees on the north side of the site. Some pot holes on the paved entry road from Tionesta (NF-10) but the dirt road from NF-10 to the site is good. I had 1 or 2 bars of LTE depending on where I was sitting in the campsite. We had a short 7 mile drive to Lava Beds and never did see another camper in the 3 days we were here, admittedly during COVID-19 pandemic.

Hats off to whoever tipped me off to this site! I am the only rig here. Clean, level, and only about 6 miles to the southern entrance of Lava Beds National Monument. This is a great spot to stay to visit the Lava Beds National Monuments. We arrived there at night following the GPS coordinates and it was easy to find, the road was easy to travel with our big rig and the signal is very good. If you are towing a vehicle with a motorhome, you might need to unhook to turn around. There was a fire ring already there. It was super quiet and dark.

A good ways off the road leading into the National Monument but level, quiet, clean, and with good Verizon signal. Can't ask for much more than that if you ask me.
