Cunningham Gulch Dispersed Camping

We’ve camped here for the full 14 days 3years in a row. Loved every minute. Early to mid July about 2000 sheep get dropped off and taken to graze over the mountain. It’s quite a sight to see. There is a maintained pit toilet. Wasn’t ready this summer due to a snow slide that hadn’t been plowed. Can be busy but is still quiet. No water unless you bring it in, boil creek water (which we have done) or catch rain water. There are now marked spots with fire rings. New this year. 4WD not necessary but helpful. Only one or two good places to turn around a large rig. 18 wheelers that drop off the sheep do it in the loop but folks had to move their rigs. No place past that to turn around.

We camped and rode trails for seven days. Beautiful place. Got into the mid 40’s at night. Rain developed almost every afternoon but would pass quickly. Can ride OHVs into Silverton and easy access to Alpine Loop.
