“Great free spot for a night”

Reviewed May 03, 2018

Overall Rating

Stopped here for the night on our way from New Mexico to Sedona. Super convenient right off the road we were already traveling on. It is also right at the entrance to the petrified forest which we were told is awesome but we didn’t have time to check out as we got in late and left early. There were a few other rigs there but plenty ... more

“Friendly gift shop camping, great location to explore Petrified Forest”

Reviewed Apr 17, 2018

Overall Rating

There are 2 camping areas here. The gift shop on the North side has power hook ups that work and they charge $10 for power. The gift shop on the South side of Petrified Forest Road is the free stay area. The RV's are packed in pretty tight if you take a spot with a picnic table. There is a back lot if you want some more privacy. The pe... more

We stayed at the Crystal Forest store, on the south side of the entrance highway. I saw a few back-in sites in use at the store across the street, but didn't get info on that one. Lady running the store where we were was very nice and friendly, when I walked in and asked about complimentary RV parking, she said "They've been waiting... more

“So convenient - makes the most of Petrified Forest Visit”

Reviewed Nov 15, 2017

Overall Rating

Petrified Forest NP is one that is easy to get to a bit late in the day and then you miss most of the park. It closes at 5pm, so you really need to get there early in the day to see it and get out, get close, and hike into the "off the beaten path" areas. Crystal Forest is just outside the south entrance to the park, making it the p... more

FREE RV Camping both sides of the road. #No Electric or any hook ups. Drive through sites on the parking lot to the right and back in sites on the other side of road. Each side has picnic tables on cement slab. Sites are pretty level. The closest grocery store is 17 miles away. I had no problems with my Verizon service here. Perf... more

fyi, the electricity is not working... was told by the nice woman at the counter that it got over loaded one night when they were full and the whole system blew out. Didn't sound like they were eager to do anything about it, but for free I was thrilled to be able to spend a night there after my lengthy tour of the Petrified Forest. I w... more

“Great location for visiting the National Park! ”

Reviewed Oct 19, 2017

Overall Rating

It’s not the most scenic, but if you’re looking to visit the The Petrified Forest National Park you couldn’t get closer. Two nights was a good amount of time to enjoy the park (it’s very neat!), hike etc. And the Park is dog-friendly which is a plus for us! Just come with a full tank of water as there is no potable water to be had here.

This was a nice, quiet spot. There was just one tent camper other than us. You have your choice of free camping with no hookups, or 30 amp electric for $10.00/night. Due to the high temps, we chose the site with electric so we could run the AC. This appears to be a little used resources. It is located at the south entrance to the park. With a senior pass, entrance to the park is free. This was a great exper... more
