Seems the caretaker / host stays in a fifth wheel and mans the hut during the day. No check in and he never approached after we parked. Beautiful views. Found the flattest spot parallel to the highway facing west. Had a nice view of the monument through my windshield. Nice mountain view to the north. Well-lit and very little traffic at night. Busy during the day of course. 4 bars of 5G with T-Mobile. Felt safe with a host on site. Would stay again.

Not my favorite place to overnight since it is right on the highway at the Crazy Horse Memorial. However, it certainly was convenient and served its purpose. The lot is a large gravel lot before you enter the memorial. There is no overnight parking within the memorial.

We arrived after dark. It was easy to find- a big, flat, old parking lot along the highway. It backed up to a field. There was only one other RV. It served its purpose but felt a little sketchy as far as safety. We were fine- my husband gave it a thumbs up- I just felt like 10 % sketchy.

Perfect for an overnight, close to Mount Rushmore. Right off the highway so there is a little bit of noise

Nice open lot! Some road noise but overall very quiet all things considered. In terms of a simple overnight park it’s a 5/5. Easy to get to, felt safe. We started as the only folks and in the morning we grew to 3 other campers and a big rig. Would stay again.

This is the old, small, gravel parking lot next to Crazy Horse Memorial. It's right off the highway, easy to pull off onto and pretty flat. We used it because we couldn't find much RV-accessible free camping near Custer State Park where we wanted to do hiking and some tourist attractions. In particular, we parked in the Gordon Stockade Historical Landmark parking lot (43.770559, -103.528912) during the day (a camp host recommended this as a spot people park for the day because it is quite large and has a bathroom) to leave the Skoolie while we did hiking. Then we stayed at this Crazy Horse Memorial parking lot overnight.
The parking lot is fairly safe because the Crazy Horse security makes rounds overnight in vehicles. They also seemed very accustomed to people staying here overnight. We asked the Crazy Horse Memorial staff about the lot and they told us that it's only available for overnight parking and people cannot camp here for extended time or look like they are camping (e.g., chairs out). We arrived around 7 pm and were the only ones there. Then at least 3 more vans rolled in around 9/10 pm and were gone by 7 am the next morning. You can get a view of crazy horse if you walk a bit down the gravel path that is near the parking lot. Overall, this spot isn't good for a long-term beautiful stay, however, it's perfect as a convenient, safe option in an area with scarce free overnight parking.

Could easily see Crazy Horse from the parking lot.
AT&T coverage was excellent - full bars of LTE.
