We spent a wonderful week at this beautiful lake. It's part Guadalupe River meeting Canyon Lake. The campground is spacious and spread far apart (one side for RV's, one for tents) so you could get a good couple of miles just walking it. There are several hiking trails nearby, we did those too.
We were able to park at the boat launch near the tent sites so we could launch our kayaks each day. The water was low. Otherwise, it might be doable by your site if the levels rise again.
There's a Lowes grocery store in town, with everything you would need, albeit slightly higher prices since they are a little town. New Braunfels is an amazingly cute, quaint German town. A must stop!!! Great restaurants including Krauses biergarten, which is right next door to the Farmers Market. If here on a Saturday, this is another must stop. Awesome produce, meats and food. Great town to walk around in and explore. If you like beer, don't pass up Guadalupe Brewing!
Tin Top was a cute burger joint next to an ice cream parlor, nice stop for kids with great prices! If you're an Elk, don't miss the New Braunfels Elks lodge. One of the more active ones we've been to.
You're also only 30-45 minutes from San Antonio, depending on where you want to go. If you need to visit SA, this isn't a bad choice.
Internet with Verizon and T Mobile worked well. Most sites were lever and its convenient to have the extra parking space. You dont see that at a lotcof campgrounds. The bathrooms were clean by the RV side and showers were hot. There's garbage dumpsters everywhere, so you'll always have a place to put trash.
Great stay!

Restrooms were clean and spacious, but it took several minutes to get hot water to the shower, wasting a lot of water. Burn ban was in effect. The main downside to this park was the gate closes at 9 PM and does not reopen until 9 AM, and while you can leave, you can’t get in.

Arrived about 3:30 PM as you cannot check in before 3:00 PM. Check in was quick and easy. We were not provided with a map nor rules sheet but the info is on park info boards and it's such a small park, you don't need a map. We had no problem backing into site 17 with water & 50/30 AMP. Water pressure was good. We did have to be careful when backing in as there was a trash dumpster at the entrance of the site. The sites here are huge and the cement pad is long plus there’s a parking space for a vehicle or boat. All the RV sites have water & electric. Most RV sites looked level, but there were a couple of interior sites that had a slight hill. There was a fire ban so no fires but grills either propane or charcoal were allowed. We received a few OTA channels but there was a clear shot to the southern sky for satellite. We got 2 bars on Verizon and with our JetPack we could get internet, call, and text service. There was no formal dog area but we could walk down to the boat ramp and through the tent area. Early each morning there were deer wondering throughout the park. Fishing was also decent off the shore. If I had my kayak, it would have been fairly easy to launch near the camp site.

The campground was nothing special. If you weren't there for the lake activities, there was basically nothing to do but walk around the campground. Will only stop here again for an overnight.

The grounds are well kept. Has electric and water only at the site but a dump station before you exit. We are in space 19 overlooking the lake. It is very quiet here, and there is good space between campers. Will come again!

We are big fans of COE Campgrounds and wanted to go somewhere for Christmas. We stayed four nights 12/23-12/27. This campground is off the beaten path and lots of locals come here. We stayed in the campground the whole time since it was 15 minutes to the closest town and 30 to really get to stores and restaurant options. The spots were great! They are very well spaced so you're not on top of your neighbor, have great concrete pads and an extra spot to park your vehicle if you wish. The spot we were in was close to the water and had a very long slab for our trailer. The picnic tables had covers on them which was a nice treat. There is a boat ramp, and we saw a few folks use it, but the lake is really low so we didn't take our kayak out. We did a lot of walking and saw some great wildlife! One down side is that there are lots of stickers and our dog kept getting them in her paws just off the roads we walked. Several other folks walking dogs were having the same issue, so be prepared to pull stickers out of their little paws. This is a great campground set up and I see why locals come here.

This campground feels super secluded away from the bustle of town, but is an easy 30-40 mins drive into New Braunfels/San Antonio. I’d recommend picking up food at the H‑E‑B on they way in. There is a Lowe’s grocery store near by but the selection of organic produce was non existent. Didn’t have a chance to explore the towns near by but did spend a lot of time in New Braunfels which is very quaint. We’d recommend and if we’re ever back in the area would stay again.

Canyon Lake is halfway between Austin and San Antonio and is 30 minutes from historic Gruene, home of the oldest dancehall in Texas, Gruene Hall. As other reviewers have stated, do not show up before 3 PM, they will not let you in!

Pick your site carefully, not all are level. On some of the sites our leveling jacks would have run out of travel
All in all a great little COE park.

Small campground on Canyon Lake with great views and plenty of wildlife to observe including daily visits from deer. I had read the previous reviews so we knew not to arrive before 3pm. We arrived on a Friday so by sunset the campground was nearly full with visitors for the weekend. By Sunday afternoon, the campground was nearly empty and very quite! Sites are spacious, paved, and include an extra paved pad for parking, a large covered picnic table, fire pit, barbeque grill, electric and water hookups. There is a free dump station near the campground entrance with a threaded connection for wash water. The bath house was clean and well maintained with multiple toilet stalls and separate shower stalls in each of the restrooms.
I think the only drawback for us with this stay is that there appeared to be no maximum set on the number of dogs per campsite. One site had a pen of 8 dogs that barked constantly and set off a chorus from other dogs in the campground. I don't care if they are show dogs, their constant barking was just as annoying as any untrained dog. That's the reason for the lower noise rating until they left. Then, wonderful!
Since this is an Army Corps of Engineers campground, we were able to use the Interagency Senior Pass for the discounted rate of $15/day. Always a win!
