I came here because I thought it was free, it is not. $20/nite for non-NV residents. Here during middle of week so it's quiet with many available spots. Looks like a fun vacation spot for families on the weekend

However, the campground is basically a narrow parking lot along the shore with trailers stacked end to end, running old, loud generators, with very, very little space between most of the sites. Some have a bit of space between them, the most being the first site immediately to the right; it’s just far enough away from the other side and not even pick up their Wi-Fi devices. If you’re into loud, trashy, weekend warriors making noise and “fun“ on dirty asphalt, this could be your place. Otherwise, at best, an overnight stopover.

With the Nevada State Parks Pass you can dry camp on the south shore of the lake for free. The 25 site developed campground on the North side is up on a hill with good lake views, but no easy water access. We tried to park in the campground first and had trouble getting level and then the park staff told us you have to pay $10/day for electric even if you don’t plug in. Since we have solar and didn’t plan on plugging in, we moved to the South side and think it was better because:
- it was level
- it was free
- we had walk-in access from our campsite to the lake
- the views of the Ruby mountains are a little better from the south
We liked the proximity to Elko for anything you might need. Cell signal was good enough for work and video calls.
We loved the beautiful sunsets and Mountain Views.
We loved plopping our sup boards in the water every day after work.
We were there in early June and it was snowing when we pulled in (we were told this was unusual for June) and it was 90 degrees when we left 14 days later (we were told this was also unusual). So just be prepared for erratic mountain weather any time of year!
Here’s a video of our time there if you’d like to get a better idea of the sites and area: https://youtu.be/RRX7ilhw2Js
Enjoy!!
