Cowlington Point

The host somehow knew who we were before I even told her. Later, she’d come by during heavy winds to inform us that while there was currently no tornado warning in effect, should we need to seek shelter we were welcome to use the bathroom. Also, despite our site being dry camping only, she let us fill up our water at an empty site. A friendly host makes all the difference.

On the downside, while doing so, a couple of tweenagers sat around making me feel like a nerd at the big football game. It takes about 25 minutes to fill up our water, so that was an experience.

The main RV / camping section is compromised of large sites with no privacy.

The three primitive sites on the peninsula are much larger and though they also have little privacy, especially site 38, they have so much room that you won’t have many prying eyes. These sites are what my review reflects, but not they’re neither large nor level enough for big rigs. Smal trailers, truck campers, car camping etc only out here.

Fishing and boating are super popular here. It was a bit of a rough and party crowd during our stay but high winds kept that noise to a minimum and given that it’s Saturday night who can blame some kids for braving a storm, in tents and hammocks, for throwing back a few cold ones. Mornings were all beautiful sunrises all over the water, wayward pelicans and other shorebirds hanging around way up here in Oklahoma, and pure peacefulness with nobody on the water for hours.

The campground was largely litter free, and while there was no Verizon service in the main camping section, 2-3 bars of the stuff allowed my family to stream Young Sheldon all night long.
