Read the directions in your reservation confirmation so that you don't get stuck at the covered bridge.

The sites are large and spaced apart. There was a large youth group there the same night we stayed, so that was busier and noisier than usual, I'm guessing.

The eponymous covered bridge is a short walk worth taking. The river is pretty. We did the boulder loop hike and enjoyed it (trailhead is close to the bridge, on the campground side). Take a photo of the interpretive guide to read about the different locations (numbered posts along the trail).

Showers are available at the Jigger Johnson campground according to the signage.

“Quiet, Cool, Serene”

Earl and I stopped here for 3 nights over Labor Day weekend. We enjoyed this campground much more than I anticipated.

The experience begins with the arrival sequence. The campground is about 5 miles north of Conway, NH. It sits in the White Mountains just east of the Shaw River. There are two routes than lead to the campground.

The first route parallels the west bank of the Shaw River via Kancamagus Scenic Highway. To get over to the east side of the river requires passage on the Albany Covered Bridge. It’s 7 foot vertical clearance rules out passage by most RV’s.

For most of us, Passaconaway Road approach along the east bank is a better route with no vertical restrictions. My GPS/Mapping application did not present good information in this area. Plan your arrival carefully.

The campground loop roadways are a little tight in some areas but the RV sites are generously sized and site 36 was easy to back into. Surfaces are fine gravel and well leveled.

There is no ATT service nor are there any hookups. Facilities are limited to vault toilets scattered throughout and piped in mountain stream water. If you are prepared to manage your tanks and battery this is a quiet and serene place to relax in cool shade for a few days. Earl and I would definitely return if we were in this area of New Hampshire again.
