We visited this campground before the wildfires, so the surrounding outer area is a bit different now. Our campsite was towards the back side of the campground on the outer rim. It was just a short walk to the water. The site fit our camping gear perfectly. The fire pit and picnic table were above the driveway. The lake is gorgeous with a rocky beach, great for swimming and paddling, just watch out for the speed boats. Flushing toilets and showers at the campground. Some awesome hiking trails around the area with views of the lake. Summer months do get more partying campers, with the quiet hours not enforced.

Found this campground to be more for those that wish to destroy National Forest property. Very Sad. We took a hike with dogs on one of the paths and someone found the need to shit in the woods rather than take the steps to walk to the FLUSHING toilets!!! WTF. The poop was right in the path with toilet paper! Several locations.
This campground is very loud with fighting couples, drunk people every where.
The park hosts are of no value. If you have small kids and really want to have lights out and quiet at 10 or 11pm. This isn’t the place. Horrible campground.

“Loud and annoying campers. If you don't boat, there is little point in camping in this area.”

We originally wanted to stay at Detroit Lake State Park, but without reservations, we were out of luck. I think the place gets so busy that they leave the "campground full" sign up all season. Anyway, all the campgrounds in this area are really busy, cramped, and in our experience, was full of loud, drunk, and annoying campers. I heard the word F#!K in this campground all day and night, and it was not good for kids to be around. We wanted just a place to fish from shore. There are a few piers that were nice, but most shore fishing is few and far between. I don't remember the prices for each spot, but we paid for a multi-use site in order to have a little more privacy. However, this extra space gives a person about the same amount of space as a decent campground would. The scenery around the reservoir is really pretty but that is about all this place has going for it. Maybe the state park is a better to stay, but all the overflow campgrounds: Hoover, Cove Creek, Santiam Flats, ect. are not great places to stay, especially with children. Also, if you want to go shore fishing in the state park, you have to be staying in the campground or you cannot enter.
