When everything else was booked over the holiday weekend, this had plenty of availability. The sites are spaced far apart for great elbow room. There were a few flies as mentioned. The pit toilet there was pretty rough, but we carry a portable CleanWaste system, and it was easy to find a private spot right behind our site (last site before exiting the campground driving counter-clockwise). Got really cold at night, but warmed up quickly when the sun hit. This was a great alternative to straight up boondocking, as it was flat for our RTT parking, and there is a nice fire ring (although fires weren’t permitted while we were there). Easy drive into Crater Lake NP the following morning!

I make my living as a photographer/videographer and work out of my truck camper frequently. Recently, I was traveling to California for a shoot and I stopped at this little campground when I was ready to take a break and sleep. It was around 70 degrees at 4pm and it was quite pleasant. Other reviews mention a horrible mosquito problem but in the middle of October this was not a problem. It was around 70 degrees at 4pm and it was quite pleasant, but perhaps it was the frigid 21 degree night temperature that kept the mosquitos in check?
This campground is surrounded by young pine trees and is quiet and isolated. When I arrived I was the only camper and every camp site was stocked with loads of firewood. I've never been to a campground where so much cut firewood was laid out for every site. Maybe the local hunters set this up for the upcoming season? I had a lovely and warm fire thanks to these thoughtful folks!
A train track runs about 1.5 miles away and the trains run frequently. It was a distant rumble and you had to really pay attention to hear. In mid-october the forest is incredibly quiet so the distant train was certainly detectable.
I fell into a deep slumber around 9:30PM and enjoyed an lovely sleep until I woke up around 5:30AM. At this hour it was quite dark and I made a hot tea and worked for a bit. At day break I took a walk around the campground and boy was I surprised to see a tent camper had arrived sometime in the night. I must have been unconscious to the world when he arrived!
I believe this campsite is well known locally but with the invasion of Campendium users the site has an influx of outside users. We have disrupted the local idea of this place! However the locals clearly love the place and clean up the trash, lay out firewood and keep it habitable. Lets respect the tradition. I replaced the firewood I used from my camper stash and cleaned up what little trash I could find. Lets keep it magical!

I can hack it out with the best of the bugs but this was out of control - even with bug spray!
If you don't mind massive amounts of mosquitos all over you, in your vehicle and trailer, then this is a nice spot.

Nice little spot off of a forest service road. However, the mosquitos were terrible. So bad that I probably won't be back.

Sites are mostly level and have a picnic table and a fire ring. Being early in the season, there was a bit of garbage in one of the fire rings. Sites are shady/mostly shady.
Had to drive back out to Chemult to get cell coverage with AT&T. Sprint was mostly non-existent even in Chemult, but if you're with Sprint, you already know that! ;-)
