Unpaved access road but well maintained. Literally a hundred yards off the rim road. You can pay for showers and get a free dump and launderette at the park campsite near the entrance.
Thank you National Forest Folk!

The road in is very rough, but take your time, and you will be fine. Once inside the area, most of the campsites are very level and Have plenty of trees for shelter from the sun

We stayed for one night while passing through the Grand Canyon. Entering from the National Park (North side of dispersed camping) there’s a sign about 1/2 mile down Coconino Rim Rd / Rd 310 letting you know you are entering Kaibab National Forest and are free to camp (and the road gets better from here). The short road from highway 64 is a little rough, but if you drive slow and carefully you should be alright! We were in a 26ft RV and didn’t have a problem finding a spot! Our site even had a rock fire ring!
There is a cell tower in the middle of this area, so service shouldn’t be an issue (full bars on AT&T and Verizon for us).

Great location to the canyon, so we stayed 2 nights. About 1/2 mile of bumpy road at the entrance, just go slow. We'll kept bathrooms by the tower.

As everyone says the first .5 miles into the site is bumpy rough, just go slow. Then it is smooth with lots of private options. Walked up to the tower and was pleasantly surprised with very well kept bathrooms. We packed up to hike the canyon but decided to come back for a second night. Great cell service.

You’ll see a no camping and fires sign on your way out of the park, but if you keep going you will get to the Kaibab Forest sign after the cattle grate and you are sweet to camp there. Yeeeew pretty spot.

While the dirt road between the turnoff from 64 and the cattle grate entrance to Kaibab National Forest is rough (crazy amount of potholing and some ruts, I was able to get through it with a 35' class A with a tow dolly and small car...you'll just go *really* slow through it. Plenty of open areas and spots in the middle of this Memorial Day weekend, which is very pleasantly surprising.

“Road In Impassable ”
noted 4/17/2023
On April 17, the road in was impassable due to mucky conditions from a wet and snowy winter. A truck was stuck waiting for a tow. We did not attempt pulling a 34’ 5th wheel.

“2 Feet Of Snow (Feb ‘23)”
noted 2/4/2023
Access road off of Hwy 64 was impassable due to ~2ft of snow that doesn’t look like it’s melting anytime soon. Just a heads up for anyone passing through in the next few weeks.
Rated 4 stars to not throw off the average, but needless to say didn’t stay here

Elevation is 7,500', not the advertised 6,000'. I'm glad I caught that before heading up for an end of April visit! That kind of elevation error makes a substantial difference in the likelihood of freezing weather at night.
