Do not miss the opportunity to camp at this coastal Maine State Park. While it may not have all convenient amenities, and yes there can be mosquitoes and black flies (bring bug spray and citronella), you will have an authentic coastal Maine experience camping on a large, private site which in most cases will be directly on Whiting Bay.

Great well spaced campsites. Most were pull through, some tents. Sites 23,21, and 20 or 19 would work for solar. Water was clean. Beautiful mix of trees. Great trail along the shoreline with high cliff overlooks, it's about a 3 mile loop and some areas are a little dicey but doable. You'll love it!

My biggest complaint is lack of garbage cans / dumpsters. Campground map shows several locations, but the only place where they REALLY are is up by the check-in booth. There aren’t even any by the dump station. At the very least, campground map should be updated.

We got a small pull through site and had a very nice quiet night to ourselves. Small fire pits but we made it work for the night!
They have a playground for the kiddos, roads are gravel within the park.
A lot of tent only walk up sites.
Trash and water throughout the park. One shower house near the dump station.

We needed a place to stay the night near Lubec. This campground isn’t luxurious by any means but it has everything you need for an outdoors experience.
The campground has a sewer dump and potable water fill at the beginning of the campground. The hot showers are there too. Beware of spiders. The showers were clean but boy do the spiders living in the shower house remind you that you are in the woods. We ended up showering in the van in the parking right outside the shower house because we could fill up and dump next door at the sewer/water fill station. We just couldn’t get that close and personal with spiders. That’s where we draw the line.
The grounds are very well manicured. In our area, the sites were super deep and private (rigs up to 30’). The restrooms are outhouse style that are ventilated. They have hand sanitizer inside. Bring a light for night time restroom use as it will be very dark otherwise.
Beware of the mosquitoes. Bring all the mosquito mitigation like wearable netting, bug spray, Thermacell or just don’t go outside. Never. Unless it is the middle of the day.

We stayed at Cobscook Bay State Park for one night but given more time, would have stayed longer. Large, dispersed campsites with either water views or heavily wooded. Both options are beautiful. Although they do not have hookups, the rest of the facilities are super.

Arrived in the early off-season (after 14 September) at 1230 local time to find that all the "on the water" sites were taken. We were offered a selection of sites to look over before making a choice, but there were many other campers picking sites so we checked the map and rolled the dice on site 16. As a side note, like many parks, they will NOT allow small trailers like our teardrop on anything but an RV site and almost all of the waterside sites are "tents only". Spot 16, as well as the other sites along the same loop (14-20) was suitable for a large RV. The park does not offer electrical hookups or water hookups but has water spouts and simple outhouses EVERYWHERE, so all the sites we saw were fairly convenient. There is also a central restroom/shower/black water site near the entrance with more substantial restrooms available. Site 16 had a limited view of water through foliage, woody but secluded from all but one or two distant neighbors. All the roads in the park are well maintained with no noticable access issues. An easily-hikeable nature trail circles much of the park. One of us was able to make it in Birkenstocks, but sneakers or hiking shoes recommended. Strongly recommend driving or bicycling around the park at least once as there are some beautiful oceany spots that are picnic only. There was an unsubstantiated rumor that some of the group/picnic sites can be occupied by single RVs in the off season, but we did not try our luck as we were happy in spot 16. Overall, the park services and awesome on-site coastal access was enough to keep us entertained for two nights and looking forward to coming back again!

As others have said this is a beautiful state park with some really great campsites and even though we weren’t lucky enough to get one of the water front sites (some of them are reservation and some are first come first serve) we enjoyed our site a lot. We were in site 16 and could see the water behind the trees from our site, but if we walked about 50 feet through the trees we came out right to the water where there was a perfect rock in the sea grass for lounging and hanging out on.
The showers are hot and free but you have to push the button about every 10 seconds to keep the water going.
Firewood and ice are available for purchase at the entrance station.
We were amazed to have great AT&T service here, we thought for sure we would need our back up Verizon, but that data gets to be saved for another occasion!
There’s a short nature trail in the park that goes up to a view point- there are equally good views in other parts of the park but it’s a nice and pretty walk with some rock scrambling at the end.

Tucked along the forested coastline of Cobscook Bay, this campground showcases the true beauty of Maine. This is what you picture when you imagine camping. Although the sites have no hookups, it is well worth it to experience beautiful views, extra space, and privacy. Besides a few nice hikes in the area, this is the kind of place you visit just to get away and relax.
Pros:
- MASSIVE campsites, like the biggest we’ve ever seen. Most are pull through loops.
- Extremely private, felt like we were the only ones in the campground.
- Even if you’re not lucky enough to nab an ocean view, the forest sites are also beautiful.
- Although no hookups, there is always a water spigot a short walk away, and the campground also has pit toilets, shower house, dump station, dumpsters, recycling.
- Strong Verizon signal for work, video calls. We were pleasantly surprised! (9mbps down/4 up)
- Very friendly & helpful staff.
- Activities include clamming, short nature hikes, boat launch, and RELAXING!
- Pet friendly
Cons:
- no hookups
- Not near much, but who cares!
Summary of the RV sites:
- Best sites are 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 28 (best ocean views)
- 10, 12, 26 are the biggest campsites I’ve ever seen
- Would not recommend 14 - 18 - the peek at the ocean is not worth the lack of privacy
- Ocean views at the tent sites are dreamy. As most are a walk back you can’t really get away with a van/pop up in tent sites as much here.
While in the area we recommend:
- Tide Mill farm (Saturday’s)
- Reversing Falls
- Cutler Coast public reserved land trails
- West Quoddy SP
- Lubec Brewing, Water St Tavern, Monica’s chocolates
- Helen’s (Machias)
