The road in was trenched and rough, but only 100 feet of it was bad. Nice quite place Trail across the street.

“Easy access camping 10 minutes from Crested Butte”

Overall Rating

If you are looking for dispersed camping with cell coverage in the Crested Butte area, Washington Gulch is your go to. If you are able to go without cell service at your campsite but would still like to be close to town to pop in for dinner, Coal Creek is a good option.

Coal Creek has a lot going for it: it is an easy 10-13 minute drive from CB, beautiful views of the Scarp Ridge, access to trails along Kebler and Ohio Pass, close proximity to Lake Irwin for kayaking/swimming/paddling, and is big rig friendly. It is a fairly small area but I’ve never seen it maxed out.

I removed a star due to light traffic noise.
