We had the only pull-through at the front of the park with huge space, 50 amp and water. Level dirt pad with lots of green grass all around. Shade from trees but able to connect satellite dish. Road noise from Hwy 26 that didn't bother us. Windows open at night. Also didn't get smoke from other campers' fire pits.
The only con is the dump is available to anyone free of charge so there's a very long line on many mornings, with most of the rigs from outside the park. It's a great service for passing campers but a pain when you're staying here.
This space is not on the water so we had very few mosquitos. Hard working staff, the place is immaculate. Easy access dump. Recycling on site. In between John Day and the national monument. Great grocery store in John Day. Best eatery in Dayville on the way to the national monument.

We hadn’t been to an electric site for awhile, so decided to stay here a night. I’m giving it 4 stars because it really is pretty, it’s clean, the sites are nice, level, long, have water & power, nice trees & little trail and the river is nice, however at the beginning of July, neither of us could sit outside at all. Behind our site (11) and a few to the West are stagnant green ponds. Thirty mosquito bites and at least half of those were after using bug spray. Our dog loved the river, but she didn’t even want to sit outside. Maybe in winter it would be nice, but not early July.
Also Oregon State Parks charge an additional $7 per night for non-residents. We had literally just paid $7 a night for dry camping at a beautiful campground further west. This was $37 for us. Just don’t come in mosquito season 🦟🦟🦟

We were there for a few days in April 2022 and spent our time playing in the river with the dog, visiting John Day (1188 Brewery) and the Sheep Rock Unit of the Fossil Beds, Blue Basin is fantastic. Just a nice centrally located pleasant happy little park. The north side spots have a little more road noise from the 26 but it is impercievable from the other side. Hidden gem as far as we are concerned.

We were fortunate and selected one of those sites. Road noise isn’t horrible but it is noticeable. You can’t see the river from this site but it’s just a few steps away. Very nice small path to walk that goes along the river and at the end is a very nice pond with lots of waterfowl. We saw Wood Ducks for the first time. Also spotted a Great Horned Owl high in a tree on the path. The trees were beautiful in the fall with all the colors. Nice wide dump station. Nice spacing and roomy sites. Chester’s a small market in John Day was about 6 miles away. We would stop again if we were in the area for a couple bites.

Friendly camp hosts! Found out June is the worse month for mosquitos, there’s none in town but an abundance of them within the grounds. Bring bug spray! Only other issue is the road noise from nearby highway. It does die down around 10pm but picks back up around 6am. Tolerable but noticeable.

Clyde Holliday is a beautifully manicured, parklike campground. It really is stunning from the landscaping to the river walk leaving the campground. The hosts are pleasant and helpful. Bathrooms and showers are clean and the water is warm. The camp itself scores a 5 but I give 4 stars because of a little road noise (which can't be helped and isn't overpowering) and a 5 to me needs more hiking options right from camp. Could be I didn't spend enough time to discover all that it has to offer. The John Day River valley itself is an intriguing place for exploration.

This is one of those manicured full hook-up camps with grass and nice landscaping. Pleasant surroundings. You are next to the creek but can't really see it without taking a walk. The downside is you are right next to the highway so road noise could be a problem.

The $34 rate is the non-resident rate. We had 50-amp and water hookups and the dump station was close by. We enjoyed biking the trail along the river and a bit of swimming. Lots of crawfish that you can see through the clear water.
The park staff were friendly and let me get a package delivered to the office during our stay!

Ease of Access: Very easy, our 28 ft travel trailer fit with room to spare. Easily circled campground once to find a space.
Weather: Days sunny low 80's nights upper 50's
Noise: Site #25 backed up to hwy 26; daytime passing vehicle noise could be loud. Night vehicle noise wasn't an issue.
Activities: Geocaching cache in the park, a couple within one mile. John Day Fossil Monument 30 minute drive away.
Wife and I enjoyed the campground, it was park like and very green due to water sprinklers. Well maintained grounds and the hot showers were free. Showers had one button operation which ran for 2 minutes per press. We walked along the river and found the mosquitoes, thank goodness for mosquito repellent.

We have stayed her twice now. It is a great little park if you are passing through and need a place for a night.
Very clean and well maintained. Staff are friendly and available if you need anything.
Downfall are mosquitos depending on time of year that you visit. Late June was not bad, but late July/ early August you cannot even leave your trailer.
You do get some highway noise, but not bad. We did have a rude awakening around midnight with a guest yelling and letting of fireworks, but it was quickly taken care of by staff with no further issue.
Great cell and 4g coverage with Verizon.
