The visitor center was really nice. Explained the geography of the area well.
Bathrooms were very clean. Nice trails all around the campground.
Not too impressed with the cliffs but it still was a nice place.

Site was long, gravel and easy to back into. Had to pull on blocks to level but wasn’t off by much. We had water, electric and sewer, fire ring and 8’ picnic table (which is on a gravel pad like our parking area). Park has 35 sites & a few cabins. Space between sites is nice. We had a lovely view of the woods. There are hiking trails, a bathhouse in the middle which is fairly new, extremely clean and spacious. Wood was available at office or the camp host site (#32) for $7/bundle. It is dog friendly and trails are easy to hike. I would ONLY change the time that the gate closes & locks at night. It is for our protection BUT if you go sightseeing or to dinner somewhere, I would be very nervous trying to get back before it locks because you won’t be able to enter until the morning if you are late. We will definitely be back again!!!! We did receive a senior discount.

Heated with 3 showers and 3 stalls. Only 1 other camper in the campground but looks to be busier on weekends. Nice hiking trails and dog friendly. Visitor center was open with some interesting exhibits. Only potential drawback is that gates close at 6pm in winter, 9pm in summer, so make sure you've got what you need for the night. All parts of park were clean. This is pretty local for us so we'll plan on coming back. BTW, NC takes $6 off reservations for 62+.

We just spent a midweek night here after labor day so it wasn’t very full but the simple loop has full hookups and was very clean and tidy.

Very clean, recently updated state park. We reserved site 6 online because it was the last available spot not realizing it was handicap accessible. When we arrived there was a handicap sign on the spot with fine listed like you would see in a parking lot. What we learned from park staff is that we would have to move if there was a walk up that needed a handicap accessible site which we completely understand. Because it was handicap accessible the drive is paved. The park was quiet. Bath houses are clean but outdated like most state parks. The visitors center is very nice and has a great interactive area for kids. We hiked along the river and then took a drive to Kinston to the CSS Neuse museum. We also spotted a nice playground, splash pad, and community pool with water slides in Kinston that we will check out on another trip. We really enjoyed camping here and will definitely be back.

Bathhouse with free, hot showers. Water spigots everywhere. They’ve got small ish tent sites, back in RV sites and 3 cabins. There is a day use area with several small trails and a visitors center.
The park is patrolled frequently by a state ranger and the front gate closes at 8 pm.
Our cabin had two rooms, two bunks and a big bed in the front room. It also had heat and AC.
We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely go again!
