Arrived late, was immediately greeted by camp host (he’s located between site D08 (the spot we stayed at) and the bathroom) and alerted us the bathroom was being renovated but the family bathroom on the side was still available along with the showers on the back side of the building (very nice guy and seemed quite knowledgeable). Bathroom and showers were clean and well maintained (showers even have a heater built in). Bathroom/shower building is next to dump station which is nice for when you arrive/leave and isn’t far from the dumpsters as well (in a line from the back of D loop to the front it goes D08-Host-Bathrooms-Dump-Dumpsters) so everything is well positioned but not on top of each other.
D08 could have fit two of my 22ft travel trailer side by side and in front as well so the spot is quite accommodating with a picnic table to add as well. Had full hook ups and it’s proximity to the bathrooms/showers was convenient. It’s also not far from the horse shoe set which was fun to throw a few rounds of.
Whole campground is surrounded by trees but has sky clearing above sites and the gravel paths/roads that connect them so it didn’t feel enclosed (also is good news for those like me that rely on Starlink for internet). There’s a few trails around which was nice for walking the dogs about (felt very safe). Lake is kinda nearby but D loop isn’t in best position for a quick walk to it; you have to walk through other loops or long trail to get to the lake.
Mainly stayed here as it’s proximity to some color changing forests and a quick trip across state line to West Virginia we’re convenient. Would stay here again if I was in the area/passing through!

Beautiful lake and marina. Activities include boating, fishing and kayaking. Easy access in and out to well maintained park. The restrooms and showers were the cleanest I have ever seen. Would suggest to get in campground D because sites are level and pull through. Good for larger rigs and the area is newer.

When we arrived, we checked in at the gate and we’re told that all our paperwork would be attached to the post at our site and to proceed through. We had never been there before and weren’t given any sort of map or direction, just told to “go around the bend and turn right”. We were in section D with W/E. There isn’t a clear direction indicator when you enter and we ended up going around twice before finding our site. That being said, the site are large, well spaced and a little offset. Twice the size of your average KOA site. The bathrooms were the cleanest in any state park we’ve been to. Large fire pit. The dump station is convenient but a little awkward in its placement. Because of the rain, we didn’t get to enjoy the lake or trails. Camp host, William, was very friendly and helpful.

Bathhouse is a bit dated but clean. D loop dump station is on the way out and sort of in the way, but there are 2 additional dump stations between loops B & C. The big sites provided some privacy. Claytor Lake hosts a marina, and there are a few easy hiking trails. Camp host was very active and helpful.

I reserved this site the morning of the night I requested online. I had also purchased a senior pass but couldn't see where to enter this number, It appears that the VA State Parks just changed it's online reservation system as of this January. The site was listed as $40 but there was a $5 fee and taxes and no discount $47.12. It was a a nice overnight stay. I didn't check out the rest rooms. It was electric/water but only used the electric. Site was a bit unlevel but the gravel back-in was roomy enough for larger than my 20' van. The grounds and lake were beautiful. It was late March on a Sunday and many open spaces. Didn't check bars but T-Mobile was used for texts, phone calls and internet fine. It was getting dark and I turned off to a small road with campers by mistake. Little room to turn around. More signs could be placed along this access road.

We used this campground as a home base to go into Christiansburg to the Home & Garden Show. We thoroughly enjoyed the hiking trails (seen lots of deer) and the lake was beautiful. We will definitely stay here again when coming back to Virginia. We have ATT and had two to three bars of service the whole time. We did not use the bath house, so can not comment on that. Park was clean and great location to get to the interstate to get to places. Seen lots of people riding bikes as there was plenty of trails and back roads around. We heard to eat at TJ"s down the street, but we did not get the chance to eat there. We went into Blacksburg to view Virginia Tech (beautiful campus) and ate breakfast at Our Daily Bread bakery and it was delicious.

Stayed here for two nights while passing through Western VA. We stayed in site 35 which I would not recommend to anyone towing a long trailer because it has a strange curve in it that made backing in and pulling out complicated. Virtually any other RV site in the D Loop is better. Also D35 is right by the dump station which is never desirable. Other than that we had a great time walking the trails here. There was so host or ranger out mowing sites while people were camped in them which I thought was kind of strange. The campground was very clean and well maintained. Bathhouses were immaculate. The trails were very nice and well marked and the lake is gorgeous! Cell coverage is spotty in some parts of the park, but I was able to stream using my Tmobile Hotspot. Didn’t try out the OTA antenna. There is a Walmart about 10 minutes away in Dublin as well as many restaurants and other stores. You are also very close to Radford which has a cool downtown and lots of shops, bars and restaurants. Overall I would definitely come back to enjoy more of the trails and the lake. I would just stay in any space except for D35.

Typical Virginia state park. Very large sites, 30 amp, no sewage.
For cell AT&T, we had to use our WeBoost 65 RV with a 35-foot directional antenna. We were able to stream TV with the WeBoost antenna.
