“Beautiful walk-in campground w/ vault toilets at the top of the road where locals stargaze”

The locals in the surrounding towns come up to the parking lot for this campground with telescopes to share with all. With the parking, there's a huge but sunny parking lot that gives you access to the trail/forest road that leads to the Center of the World and the mountain biking/cross-country skiing trails that connect the other campgrounds to this one. The campground has lots of shade, picnic tables, fire pits (check for fire restrictions as CA is still suffering through drought & high wildfire risk), and vault toilets inside outhouses. I've been here numerous times over and keep coming back! If you need cell service, there's a turnout between this campground and the next one down (aka Los Padres/Mt Pinos Campground) with okay bars via Verizon and T-Mobile.

Love this site. My friend and I have been here multiple times. We were here the week of the 14th right after it opened for three days. We were at site 10. We noticed a tent on site 12 with no rain fly and a couple of chairs in it but nobody showed up in those three days except a couple that were hiking and said it was friends of theirs that hold the site for themselves. To me that is wrong! I got here again yesterday and the tent was gone but the owners of the tent came up to have dinner and a fire. They Left the fire still going and did not douse it with water at all. They live at the bottom of the hill and said they come up frequently for dinner and a fire. Her name is Sue she is in real-estate locally he's retired and they have a dog called mango. Nice people bad and dangerous habits.
