“The rate reflected the need for more campgrounds, not the amenities”

Dissappointing to say the least. We didn't get a map upon arrival and the place is a catacomb so go online and get one or ask before you attempt to get a spot. Don't plan on setting out the patio furniture. RV sites are sardine sized. If it wasn't for the camping limit at the nearest state park I would have not stayed here. On the plus side, they are closer to town and have some trails.

“Huge park, but crowded during salmon run”

We came during the salmon run, which made our stay a bit less enjoyable. The fishing was fun -- there's a great place to fish on the river right in the park -- and Soldotna has every amenity, but it was super crowded.

There are tons of sites here (even a generous overflow area), so take some time to drive around and scout one out. We found good internet all over the park, and we were conveniently close to many of the city's stores and restaurants.

There are no hookups, but they do have a dump station. The fee is quite high, though, so everyone just uses the free dump and water fill-up at the Fred Meyer in town. Be prepared for a line!

Sightseeing on Alaska's Sterling Highway | Ardent Camper

There's more to Alaska's Kenai Peninsula than Seward, although that town is in the running for our favorite we've ever visited. The western part of the peninsula is accessible via the Sterlin...
