Whitewater is a quality campground and state park. Our site in the Cedar Hill campground was quiet, level, and private with trees, and the roads, buildings and amenities are well-maintained. The river is the key attraction, and the hiking is beautiful. There are hikes that are mostly level along the river (Valley Trail), and options with steps and hills (Eagle Point). As others have noted, there is no cell service in the campground, and we couldn't get Verizon service in the adjacent town of Elba either. Had to drive out of the valley to get cell service. You can get onto the park's free guest WiFi at the ranger station.

Very clean park. Nice large sites. No device on the T-mobile phone, only voice with Verizon, but my AT&T hotspot was getting 18Mbps downloads.

We stayed here for 3 nights while driving across the country. It was such a restorative experience. The campsites are well maintained, very clean bathrooms, and informative visitor center. We enjoyed the hikes and swimming hole.

Fantastic sties with mature trees and vegetation providing privacy, amazing interpretive program about the WPA and CCC work done in the park (fascinating history), exceptional trails, trout fishing, the cutest souvenir store ever with ice cream and a sand swimming beach to boot. Oh yeah and no mosquitos. The rumors are true. I've been camping in Minnesota parks for nearly 25 years and this is easily my new favorite park. No wonder Whitewater State Park is the second most popular park in Minnesota.

So I was camping in Wisconsin and there were so many mosquitos that you had to wear Deet 50% plus, which I know is gross. Even with that those buggers would still get you. Not a fun experience. So I was camping in Wisconsin and there were so many mosquitos that you had to wear Deet 50% plus, which I know is gross. Even with that those buggers would still get you. Not a fun experience. So I literally googled camping in Wisconsin or Minnesota without mosquitos. This is park I found! In fact, it is written in their park description as a lack of noticeable mosquitos and they are correct.
This park gets busy so make reservations if you need a specific site. I have camped here on two different occasions and have been able to snag a non-reservable site each time. The hiking is fantastic and offers several different type of trails, from hiking near the river to hiking on the bluffs. People come here also to fly fish on the river
So off to the downside, no cell, no connectivity at all. I was able to get some cell/text service when I was hiking on top of the bluffs. The town of St. Charles is not too far away and can get service there. Also a great co-op (I'm a sucker for a co-op) in Rochester, MN, the People's Co-op.
No Verizon service at Campground, however other campers with AT&T got service (update 06/15)
