“Great pit stop for one night! Kid approved! ”

Reviewed Jun 25, 2018

We stopped here for our one night to break up a drive to Carlsbad caverns and we were not disappointed with our stay here. Affordable campsites with power and water hookups - nice and quiet - deers that my girls loved to watch - caverns were AMAZING!! The tour last almost 2 hours and the gift show was also amazing - I did some shopping... more

“Nice quiet place”

Reviewed May 04, 2018

We spent one night here. Nice level gravel campsite with electric and water. Pull-thru sites. We did not take the time to go into the cavern. They have a nice souvenir store with some really good homemade fudge. Quiet camping out in the country. It was not very crowded in March 2018. Several deer wandering around the place. We reco... more

“Good for One Night Stop. See the Caverns!”

Reviewed Feb 20, 2018

Overall Rating

If you are headed across Texas on I-10, there's not a lot of options. ESPECIALLY, if you have kids. Caverns of Sonora met our needs: Between Austin and Ft Davis, with something to do--it was a good stop for the night. It is about 8 miles outside Sonora. It is a privately run RV, Campgrounds and Caverns, with a cool little gift shop... more

“Decent stay for short-term visit”

Reviewed Mar 21, 2017

Overall Rating

As others have mentioned, there's not much to do here besides the caverns. The caverns/ranch is on the outskirts of the city; the main part of Sonora, TX is actually another 8 miles or so away. We enjoyed the variety of animals around. At dusk and dawn you'll find deer congregating in the nearby fields. There are peacocks that roam ... more

“Perfect to see the caverns and move on...not anywhere to stay more than a night”

Reviewed Jan 14, 2017

Overall Rating

Let's be clear, this is not anywhere you want to stay more than 1 night. There is absolutely NOTHING around here except the caverns. This is a parking lot but you can walk out your door, and right into the cavern. Get here early. I arrived at 12pm and was the 1st one here. By 6pm it was completely full. In the morning, it cleared out a... more

“Worth the drive!”

Reviewed Oct 04, 2016

We didn't get there in time to tour the caverns, but the place is a gem. So the RV park is basic gravel and closely spaced. It doesn't detract at all from the experience. The store is incredible inside and out. It brought back memories of road trips as a child many decades ago. We spent some very relaxing time on the porch sitting... more

“it isn't the campground, it's the caverns!”

Reviewed Jan 13, 2016

Overall Rating

I stayed here one night only, looking for a spot between Marfa and Austin and this fit the bill. The campground is basic and fine- an easy place to stop for the night. But the caverns were simply astounding! My tour guide took me on a tour by myself at the end of the day, and we spent almost two hours down in the caverns. I was totally... more

“A basic campground ”

Reviewed Dec 15, 2015

We stayed here for a single night so we could visit the caverns. It's located about 7 miles off I-10 with a 1 mile section of hard packed gravel at the end. There are pull-thru and back in spots with water and electric hook-ups. The campground is a very basic gravel lot with not a lot of separation between sites, but you're not there f... more
