Has anyone car-camped here? Does anyone know if there are restrictions against car camping? I’ve run into this before.

Arrived on a Monday afternoon with no reservations. They had a few available sites in the D loop. I have a 28 foot actual length (from hitch to ladder) travel trailer and short bed crew cab truck. I spent a good hour trying to make the turn from the main road onto the D loop and no dice. There are large rocks and trees alongside the road continuously that prevent much in the way of wider turns. Ended up leaving with no site. As tight as it was, I was just happy I was able to get out of the campground without issues.
Looks like a nice campground but best for smaller rigs.

I worked as a campground host here in 2020. While the campground is esthetically pleasing on the surface, with tall ponderosa pines and a small spring-fed stream, it has some serious problems. Vermin is one of the worst, with disease-ridden ground squirrels running all over picnic tables and getting into campers food stores, and then bold skunks at night, which will fight you and your dog for dog food. The trunk toilets have become broken down over the years, and now allow raw sewage to enter the ground water next to Oak Creek. Something to consider if you plan on playing in the water downstream. Also, barrier rocks make trying to maneuver an RV difficult. And the hoards of questionable people who go to Oak Creek canyon are detrimental to a pleasant camping experience.

Wow was this campground extremely tight and difficult to maneuver. USDA website says they can accommodate TVs and trailers up to 36 ft....maybe in one or two of the sites. Got here and E and F loops closed due to minimal staffing. We were the first ones to arrive on a Sunday around 1030 for FCFS site. We were lucky one of the camp hosts had to leave and they gave us their site and we were able to get our 30 ft bumper pull into that site. There might have been one or two others we could have tried. Super tight interior roads and the barrier rocks alongside the road make it very difficult yo back into the sites.

Walk ups can line up at the stop with just before the office, which is open 10-6. I thought it was 9, so we got there just before. A host actually came out within 15 minutes of arrival anyway and started the process.
A-loop sites are all reservation only (these are the only ones along the creek, but not all are Creekside).
It isn’t far from 89, so there’s occasional noise through the night, but nothing terrible.
They sell ice and firewood. The little shop and showers are closed for COVID.
Yes, some of the staff is better about masks than others. I don’t get the impression that it is ill will, just absent mindedness.

We were lucky to snag a spot here on a Sunday morning when most of the people were clearing out after the weekend. Staff were incredibly nice and helpful. Right by spot F10 there’s a little trailhead where - if you bear right - you can walk down to a gorgeous little creek; there’s even a little cliff from where people jump off of. We were told to watch out for - and keep an eye on our pets for - bears, skunks, poison ivy and poison oak. Would return here ANY TIME. Loved it.

Super disappointed with this campground. Multiple people recommended it. When we arrived the ranger that checked us in was not wearing a mask. Since they are required I was surprised by this. Not to mention I had to sign a bunch of stuff and wait for him with all his paperwork and things. I’ve camped at a lot of sites over this pandemic and this was by far the worst check in experience. Arrived at our site, and I’m reading through the rules: “Please Keep your campground free from confetti, glitter, water balloons.” WHO does this?! Yep, our site was covered in glitter. This placed was trashed out. Super disappointed in the people camping here. Will not be back.

We have been camping here for many years. It was great to return this year and encounter camp hosts like Alan and Roe who made the experience so much more relaxing as camping is intended. They were attentive and helpful. It was wonderful to have camp hosts like them. We will be returning soon.

We stayed here 5/29-6/1 and absolutely loved it & will come back again. The campground is shaded, which is nice during the day when it's high 90s. The campground itself was very clean, the showers weren't open but the bathrooms were clean and didn't smell. The camp hosts drove the area multiple times a day, specifically checking the bathrooms. They have quiet time 10pm to 6am and surprisingly everyone was very respectful of those hours. The best part the creek access that comes with your camp stay. Perfect activity for our two year old son.
