“The cleanest ever!!”

State of ID is to be commended!! This park is beautiful. When we were there last week, mid Sept., we were about 200 feet below the snow line. Park is right off the entrance to City of Rocks National Preserve which is absolutely stunning.

Lots of room in almost all the sites and they were very well maintained. We had 50A and water. Appreciated the 50A as it was 34 to 38 degrees most of the time. All roads paved with some very large pull thru sites. Big rig friendly for most all sites. Great cell service too!!! Not much in the town of Almo, but Tracy General Store was cute and carried the forget me nots!!

“Well-appointed campground with showers, electric/water hookups, level sites, good internet”

Overall Rating

The campground in the Castle Rocks SP is actually called Smoky Mountain Campground which is a bit of a misnomer as there's not really a mountainous feeling. More like desert chapparal.

We were here in early October and there were lots of sites available. Camping fee includes a $5 a day motor vehicle entrance fee. Showers for non-residents are $3 which seems fair especially since they're clean and each has its own entrance. Flush toilets. There's an RV dump station nearby and each site has water and 30 amp electrical service.

Location-wise, it's a few miles from the action— the fabulously exotic City of Rocks— so if you'd like to have a front row seat to the cool boulders, hikes and rock climbing attractions within City of Rocks, check out the dry camping alternatives a few miles down the road at 1/3 the price.

The cute town of Almo is a mile down the road and stocks all the essentials.
