We came to Minnesota in search of a quiet, lakeside campground where we could enjoy water views, kayak around the the lake, and explore the forest. I'm happy to report that Cass Lake delivered all of that and more! The first week we stayed at site 11 where we had a grassy site with a tiny beach and a great water view. The second week we moved to site 6 where our site was even larger, but the beachfront a bit more rocky. In general, you can't go wrong with any of the waterfront sites here. Reserve early though as there are not many and they fill up fast!
This campground is one of three in the Norway Beach recreation area. It's the only one with water view sites, but it also doesn't offer any utility hook-ups. If you rely on solar panels for power when not hooked up to electricity be aware that this campground is very, very shady. We resorted to topping off our batteries with the generator daily because our panels were getting zero sun. Also be aware that some campers are really rude when it comes to excessive generator use and the chances are high that at least one person in the campground will run their generator late into the night. If you don't want to deal with this, I would suggest the Chippewa Loop instead where the giant, wooded sites have electric and water hook-ups (but no water views).
Aside from that one tiny issue we enjoyed our stay immensely. The kayaking in the lake was fantastic, the forested setting cool and relaxing, and the nearby bike trail perfect for our daily exercise.
WatsonsWander would stay here again
