“Unfriendly Camp Host & Noisy”
Reviewed 2/28/2024
Right next to the highway, really noisy, people live there permanently and do not clean up their sites, and trash everywhere. When the camp host is there, he is very rude and unpleasant. Good luck trying to dump at the dump station on your way out, he keeps it locked up. Waited until he was there and he wanted to charge me $35 to dump!... more

Good luck trying to dump at the dump station on your way out, he keeps it locked up. Waited until he was there and he wanted to charge me $35 to dump! I argued about the astronomical price then left. Rude, rude man.

We ended up here because we needed a last minute place to stay over a weekend near Denver, and this was the closest campground with availability. It was fine, but the price was too high for such a bare bones campground.
Pros: Sites are spacious and clean with a picnic table. Walking trail and playground in the adjacent city park. Reservations are easy to make on the website. Late checkout (2pm) was nice. Castlewood Canyon State Park is nearby and worth a visit. Walmart is 5 min away.
Cons: No sewer hookup, though there is a dump station. The site we stayed in was right off the road, so lots of road noise. I’m sure there’s a camp host, but we never saw them. The dumpster was far away and the bath house is in the city park behind the campground. Spotty/congested ATT cell service.
Read your confirmation email for the key code to the dump station and bath house! Both are kept locked.

We pulled in on a Sunday at 3pm there was no camp host, tried calling and straight to voicemail. Went to the office at Evan’s park, closed. Went to site and setup for the night. Nice views and decent level dirt sites. Water and Electric at each site. Dumping at the entrance but it’s locked. Again no camp host to help.

Came in from CO Springs via 83. Nice drive, beautiful houses - saw over 15 deer. Park is near road - some noise. Site 1 is closest to road but ok. Nice playground, baseball fields, and rodeo area all within walking distance. No sewer is a bit of a pain for a family of 5. 3 permanent residences: 2 had a lot of junk pilled up.

Make sure to see specific signs for park before turning. Host is wonderful! She even gave us some local insight to restaurants. There are nice trails at the back of the park that me and dogs enjoyed every day. Dump station and trash containers available My daughter lives close and I would stay again. Don’t expect RMNP when you stay but sites are totally adequate.

Campground is right off the main road from Elizabeth, CO. There's not much recreational activities in the area. There is a state park within the vicinity and the town of Castle Rock about 17 mi away. Maybe we are just spoiled with other camping in Colorado, but this place is pretty blah.

This park may be the best bargain in the Denver metro area. It’s quiet, shady and comes with a flock of wild turkeys for your occaisional entertainment! They have a clean dump station that’s well-located and convenient to use (the hole is not too far for our 6’ hose) - and the price is right at $35/nite. Best of all, it’s not a parking lot - there is space between neighbors. There’s a ballfield down the hill behind the campground, so you may have to put up with a little noise if your site is to the back, but you’re in a public city park, not a private facility, so parky things are going to happen. Sites are not paved. Our site was pretty level, but most of the rigs are using levelers.
The location east of I-25 may seem out of the way but the drive to Royal Gorge on the back roads was 1.5 hours of very pleasant driving as opposed to 1.5 hours of mostly I-25 hell. We saw longhorn cattle, horses, burros, mules, prairie dogs and some frisky pronghorns all hanging out in lovely rolling prairie. Very nice and very easy.
If you’re in the south Denver area, this campground is great.
