We stayed here first two weeks of May 2021. We absolutely loved this campground! It was fairly isolated- 30ish minutes from Springfield- and not very busy at this time of year.. a couple groups came in over the weekends, but very quiet during the week. We took the first left to access our site 17- sites this way appeared to be larger. The right side sites were all very woodsy and didn't seem large enough for our 32 foot. We picked site 17 because of its constant sun- Temps dropped to the 30-40s at night, so we wanted all the heat we could get to warm up in the mornings. I imagine in the dead of summer you may want to avoid this spot due to its lack of shade.. most every other site in the park appeared to have lots of shade. During most days, we were getting absolutely gorgeous 70⁰+ days.

Site was level enough without having to use blocks. Also had a huge yard, with a fire pit and picnic table. Not too close to other sites- there is a group site right behind site 17 but they're separated with bushes..

Access to the lake/creek is close, but water levels are super low. The boat ramp at the campground is closed off because of the low water levels. You have to walk across a meadow now to reach the water, but not a bad walk. Our dog loved running through the meadows looking for little critters and then we'd go down to the creek where he would jump right on in.
Tons and tons of waterfowl! Super adorable with all the goslings and ducklings in tow!
Be cautious of possible blue algae in the area.

Cell service was great- both Verizon and AT&T. Was able to remote work here for the week and even streaming worked great.

Only con for us was no access to running water on site- nearest water was 15ish minutes away at the rec area on the other side of the lake and also no dump station nearby. If there were water and a dump, we would've never wanted to leave!

We ended up utilizing Planet Fitness in Springfield- ~30min away- to take showers every few days. In the same parking lot is a laundry facility(closes at 10p) so we could workout/shower and get laundry done all on one trip to town!

Cascara is a nice campground with several sites large enough for a 36+ foot 5th wheel. It is all 1st come 1st served, so we went out Thursday night to make sure we got a space that would fit us. This year, the reservoir was pretty low, so the boat ramp at the site was closed (probably contributed to the campground not filling up every weekend as of late). When you arrive, sites 1-23 are off to the left. The ones at the back are tucked more into the trees and has shorter driveways. As you swing around toward the reservoir, the sites get a little bigger & a little sunnier. We didn’t go to the sites on the right side of the campground, but they look like they would have quite a bit more shade.

Our spot, #23, was a ~62 foot driveway with tall pines & blackberry bushes circling it. We had decent shade throughout the day with areas of sun for those that wanted it. The weather was warm - in the low 90’s but there was a little breeze periodically during the day. We had friends with 3 kids bring out a 3 room tent, set up horseshoe stakes, and we had our dog octagon kennel up with room to spare.

There are some double sites that must be booked together. Max of 2 vehicles/ space, with the second vehicle costing $7/day. Cash/check/card for payment. There is overflow parking on the road outside the campground (but not on the road directly outside the campground- you have to drive a little ways back up the road. Jr Ranger talk in the amphitheater on Saturday’s. Ranger station on site has horseshoes/frisbee/balls to borrow.

I worked from the campground on Friday using my cellphone hotspot for internet & had faster speeds than out normal site in Harrisburg (also 4 bars).
