Got to see beautiful sunsets, the hills changing color throughout the day and watching "crawlers" come and go. It is near the highway but we saw maybe a dozen vehicles all day on a Monday. Sunday was much busier with off-roaders. If you have kids though and don't like sand in EVERYTHING, don't stay here.

If you’re in the area, this is a great option. There are some Jeeps that come to off-road nearby, but non disturb you. On the weekdays there is rarely anyone around. Cars don’t pass often and most of the time it’s pure silence. I loved this place. Will definitely come back next winter.

This place is actually really beautiful, though the path to get there was unanticipated. We kept driving from Sedona and simply needed a free place to crash. If you happen to find yourselves in a similar situation, we definitely recommend!
Pros: No traffic nearby, amazing views, all to ourselves, cell service was great, plenty of hiking and Biden officially accepted the Presidential race while we were here!
Cons: Pretty windy which wasn't ideal

“Great, remote spot, but fairly busy and near road”

This one almost got 5 stars from me, actually! It's a cute boondocking spot, with an amazing view of the Carrizo Badlands. There's fun and interesting hiking: into Canyon Sin Nombre (which can also be driven through with 4wd) and a slot canyon in there, nearby ancient lava flows, and several more adventures all around. The entire area is very fascinating!
The spots are mostly rather small, immediately off of a dirt road running parallel to the main road. The size isn't an issue for me, but could prove prohibitive with some rigs. However, you hear and see all traffic on the main road, and several people drive through the dirt road to take in the view throughout most days. This also hasn't bothered me significantly at all while staying, but is worth knowing before choosing this spot.
This actually tends to be one of the warmer areas during the winter of San Diego county--this being on the eastern edge of that county. However, the wind can get very heavy throughout, especially this fall and winter.
This is part of Anza Borrego Desert State Park, which allows 1 month in a year in spots like this. It is more than tempting to use all of that given time! I have not wanted to leave!
Verizon LTE signal is constant, reliable, and fast enough for video conferencing and movie streaming (I specifically only stream in low quality with the latter, however).
