It’s a rustic campground so my rating is based on that.
It’s a very well maintained campground with spacious sites and good separation. The vault toilets are very clean. The campground host is friendly and helpful. A positive experience in one of Michigan’s many National forests.

Randy was a very good camp host, bathrooms and sites were clean, good amount of space between the sites. Site 7 was nestled in the trees, a short walk to the winding Carp River. Could hear some car noise from the nearby road but not irritating enough to cost a star. Spent two nights, would return.

In our drive around, we saw 1 or 2 sites that would be tough with a travel trailer (we have a 2500RL Imagine).
2 or 3 sites have walk-downs to the Carp River for kayak access.
From the second loop drinking water is probably more of a drive than a walk, if you are carrying more than 2 5 gallon containers.
Not the best spot for solar panels, but we were at 86% in the morning and by 3:30 PM we were at 94%.
Also, with the senior golden pass rates are reduced 50% so we paid $10 per night.
regular rate is $20.00 per night.
Great cell signal. Verizon 2-3 bars.
Excellent TV reception.
Firewood on site $7.00 bundle will get 2-3 decent fires or 1-2 blazing fires.
Campground hosts are great.

Cell signal performance AT&T was strong the entire time. Verizon was variable, that being said both my wife and I were able to work on our computers and iPhones for the duration of our stay.

I fogged with Yard Guard and it made it very livable with all the mosquitoes. The tall thick trees, the river bubbling below, the birds singing and a bonfire going, we couldn’t ask for anything more. Oh there was a little road noise that disturbed the silence of the night, but I won’t complain.

This is an old style National Forest campground that is located about 20 minutes north of Saint Ignace in the Upper Peninsula. You can catch a ferry to Mackinac Island in downtown Saint Ignace so this campground is an inexpensive alternative to the expensive state park or private parks if you are set up for rustic camping. We used it as a stop on our way home from northern Canada.
The sites are huge with lots of separation. Lots of tall trees and shade so it is really forest camping. The sites all have a fire ring and table but there are no rv or tent pads so after a rain the site can be a muddy mess.
There are a number of pull through sites, site 17 is a large pull through and we were able to get our trailer level without any leveling devices.
There are both old style outhouse type toilets and a more updated pit toilet facility.
We had mostly 1 bar of 4g service but it would pop to 3g or disappear all together randomly, then return.
The campground was surprisingly busy in mid September but very quiet the night we stayed. Bring your Thermocells or bug spray as mosquitos can be annoying.
We paid $8 night using senior pass.
