Does anyone know the height of the underpass under the highway. Thanks!

There's a pull out just as you come into the canyon and then a second pull out further down that road. The road dead ends just past the second pull out and if you take a rig down there there is no u-turn, would have to back it out.
Plenty of spots for smaller trailers and vans. Get there early if you have a big rig so you can grab a nice spot, there are limited spots for the big rigs.
Beautiful starry skies at night, very quiet and peaceful place to stay. Have fun, Pastor Andy Byways RV fellowship. Hope to meet you down the road.

First area has easier access to the river and 2nd area is more secluded. There's a strange chemical smell near the water that I can't explain... Not unbearable but very noticeable. Trash found sparsely throughout the canyon, but otherwise relatively clean. If you're tent camping, I'd recommend avoiding the spots right up against the rock walls, as rocks cascade down occasionally.
Stayed during the rain AND the snow, and would definitely stop again on a journey across Northern Nevada.

This BLM rec area includes a few level gravel pull-offs for RVs, one at the beginning of the park and another towards the back-end of the park. Did not note any areas recommended for tent camping. This site seems like a popular area for fishing however did not see anyone with exception of one other camper. There is no cell service. Enjoyed a quiet and peaceful evening tucked inside the canyon.

The road circles back and ends just before I80. Near the end of the road there’s a kiosk on the river side with a couple benches and educational signs. That’s where we camped. There are gravel pullouts on both sides of road and each already had one rv. No formal spots but a lot of space. There’s a road down toward the river a little past these spots that ends at a paved trail. You could probably camp on that road but it’s very close to freeway and doesn’t have a turnaround.
Beautiful sunset in the canyon. Pretty river view. Water was very low. My husband tried fishing a bit anyway. Gets nice and cold at night. Stars were amazing.
No Verizon or google fi.

**Directions for Travelers heading West From Elko!** The Canyon is off a 5 mile dead end access road on the south side of I-80 called Chestnut. You will pass the dropped pin on your map as you go through a tunnel. Take the next exit before Carlin, go south under the highway, then turn east on Chestnut. You’ll follow the paved road a few miles into the canyon.
We arrived after dark (but the views in the morning are amazing!) We slept at the pull off marked on the map, Which has an awning and benches with historic information. We were the only ones there all night and morning. You can see anyone coming for half a mile. Amazing stars. Beautiful canyon.

Water was low and stagnant and there were two decorated crosses in the ground at the first site. You know, the ones you see on the side of the road in memory of a death in that area. Freaked my wife out so it was just not for us.

Area was big enough for a few RVs but we landed there early and only one other rig showed up for the night. Had a few cars drop in for the day though and picnic. Could hear a little bit of the road noise in the distance as well. Fishing was great though! River is loaded with small mouth down below. Stepson has a great time with catch and release while there. Had to walk down the road to get any cell service, and even then it was minimal.

Follow the Google or Apple maps directions and you'll be fine. It will take you down a frontage road, then under I-80. Then there is a horseshoe shaped road where there are two pull-outs. The first is on the left right after the tunnel. I recommend you keep going to the second one about a mile later on the right. It is large and very quiet. But do ignore the signs on the road that says it leads back to I-80. It does not - you must retrace your route back to the freeway to get out.
The second pullout is right on the river, room for 2-3 large rigs and there is another spot on the opposite side of the road for an additional camping party. Plenty of room to turn around with our Ram truck and 24' trailer.
It gets dark in the canyon quickly and take care walking on the road along the river, as the occasional unexplained car races down the road (that goes nowhere).

Right off 80 on the old road that is still paved and maintained. Really easy to find. Several places to park and car camp or RV etc. Can hear 80 some but not bad. A beautiful place. Easy to get back on the highway, get gas etc. Pilot right by the ramp.
No service once in the canyon.
Site quality 5 stars for the beauty.

We are a 34’ class A pulling a Ford Escape, easy turnaround at the first big pullout, did not venture further just because we got there after dark and didn’t want to run into trouble turning around. Just a hint of noise from the highway, slept well, woke up to see the beautiful rock wall next to us. Had a little bit of a Verizon signal. You do have to get off the highway and go about 5 miles and then backtrack back to the closest on-ramp.
