We were told that Caprock Canyons State Park was the best hiking trail park in Texas, and it proved that on nearly every path. Honey Flats Campground is well laid out - the sites have good spacing with high plains/desert landscaping in between. Shower facilities were excellent, well kept during our four night stay in late February 2024. Bonus points for having cool canyon sights a short walk from the back of our campsite. Definite recommend the park for hikers of all skill levels.

There were a ton of bugs in the shower but that’s Texas for ya. Overall we had a great stay and left in the morning with a short buffalo traffic jam

We camped in a van. Bathrooms were functional but dated and need some fixes. Price includes day use fee x2 since we had to pay it to camp there.

Nice campground as others have stated. Never could find the camp host as it doesn't seem they do anything to maintain the camp sites or clean fire pits. On top of that, Texas SP charge a daily access fee on top of the camping fee. But they also own the Trailway which is a 26 mile rail trail with limited access. I can not understand the reluctance to allow e-bikes on a trail that is very long and wide and not used by many. The information regarding the non use of e-bikes is hidden in the rules for the trail which is not obvious on the general information regarding the trail. Poor decision by Texas State Parks.

As others noted, bison are free ranging and leave presents. Lots of hiking and bird watching to do. There is a prairie dog town next to the campground, and we frequently had roadrunners running through. Coyotes at night. The lake's water level was very low at the time of writing.
Verizon speeds were 10 Mbps down and 2 up without fiddling. T-Mobile was 16/4. Starlink Residential was 95/8. Cell speeds were with a roof mounted Pepwave Mobility antenna.

Bison are all around and we watched a group of 4-5 turn on the water spigot in the site next to ours and start drinking the water. We also encountered them several times out on the trails.
The water does have a lot of sediment in it and will be white when you first put it into a bowl or glass until it has a chance to settle. We ran into the town about 10 minutes away and picked up some bottle water for cooking and drinking.
AT&T service in the campground was good considering where you are. We were able to stream shows on Hulu with little issue.

We camped here for three nights. The rate I posted includes the discount I receive with the Texas State Parks annual pass. This was our first visit to this park. We really loved this place. Our site was fairly level, we just had to make small adjustments side to side and front to back. The pad is asphalt and was pretty easy to back into. There is a covered picnic table. This site was 30amp only but there are a few sites that are 50/30 amp. This site was nice because there was no one on your passenger side or behind you and there was nice shrubs/trees blocking the driver's side next door site. Cell service was spotty for both ATT and Verizon. There is a park wifi which was weak.
There is a hiking trail (Canyon Rim Trail) along the canyon. It is level and very easy and has great views. Do Not take the Canyon Rim Spur Trail because you miss all the canyon views. If you have children, there are no guardrails anywhere. You can walk right up to the rim of the canyon and fall in if not careful.
Bison are free ranging and we saw a few walking along the road as we drove around. It is possible for them to walk through your campsite as evidenced by bison droppings all around. The prairie dog town is also neat to watch. The park is pretty isolated and groceries, propane, etc are not close. Gas is available in the nearby town.

Some do not have as much privacy (trees) as others, but I believe most have a lot of space. Except maybe the buddy sites like 28, 30 and 32, where you will be very close to your neighbor. No internet on Verizon or maybe sometimes 1 bar but mostly not usable. Its in the middle of nowhere, so be sure to bring everything you might need.

Do not tent camp here. They will mislead you and then give you a huge fine!!! When we booked the campsite as a fun activity for our pandemic fatigued 6-year old granddaughter, they told me our car would be close to our campsite. We get there at 4 on a Friday afternoon in November and we were the only people in sight! When we booked, they told us to go into the park and find our tent site by ourselves because park personnel were avoiding interacting due to Covid. We got to our sight and found the gate locked to the whole area. It was clear people had driven around the gate several times. Thinking they had forgotten their sole campers for the night and had not come and unlocked the gate, we drove around it. We were very concerned about having to put up the tent in the dark, which was descending upon us. We went down a road to our campsite. While we were unloading, a state police officer came and gave us a $200 fine for going around the gate. It was devastating and disappointing. We wanted our granddaughter to have some fun during all the pandemic restrictions. We were treated horribly.
