I travelled here with a 35’ 5th wheel, long bed pickup and parked in site #23 on the Honey Flats loop, an E/W BI site for $16/night with a TX State Park pass. Roads/site are asphalt and were easy to navigate. I had no issues backing into the site. I liked being on the side of the road next to the oval – made it easy to walk to the bathhouse and to sit and watch the Prairie Dogs. Bison would also wander through the Prairie Dog town which was cool to see (yes, I kept trees between me and them.) There really wasn’t much shade, but there were large bushes between my site and others giving some privacy. The picnic table was covered and was very nice. Cell coverage was erratic, going in and out. Wifi did the same. There were 6 or so OTA channels picked up. The only bad thing that happened is that the power went out for 8 hours or so one day. The camp hosts were clueless and didn’t even try to notify people or find out what was happening. There was no communication from the park staff either. Make sure you come fully stocked with groceries since there isn’t much near the park. There were some good hikes in the park of various levels to fit what works for you. I enjoyed my stay here.

Be prepared with any information you need since you can’t count on a signal. However, it’s beautiful so worth it! Bathrooms could use an update, again, it’s worth it.

We enjoyed our two night stay. The fee I posted is after the discount with our $70 annual Texas State Park Pass. The bison are great to watch, but take care. A hiker was gored and hurt badly while we were there! They will appear and surprise you. We were slowly driving along and stopped to watch a group. A bull came toward us, got much too close, but our only option was to drive forward or back up. We elected to sit still and had no issue. Got a great photo.
The views are really great, be sure to take in the stars. Facilities show their age and were not as clean as others we have seen, but that's not why we go or don't go to a park. If you must have nice up to date facilities, you'll be disappointed.
And yes, bison leave behind gifts similar to cows, so watch your step. Flies can be a nuisance, I'm sure because of the bison.
We had AT&T cell service just fine.

We stayed at the Caprock Canyon State Park from 10/7‐10/10 and really enjoyed our stay. We camped in the "Wild Horse" campground with water but not electrical or sewer. The pad site was Texas red dirt but relatively level. We paid $14/ night for the site and had to pay the park an additional $5/ day use fee per adult (over 12 yrs old), kids 12 and under are free. The Caprock State Park is home to the Texas State Buffalo heard and they were everywhere. It was really cool to be able to see those majestic creatures up close and in the wild. They also house a large prairie dog population located nesr the bath facilities. We hiked the Wild Horse and North Prong Spur trails and they weren't too terribly challenging and had amazing views. The gyppsum rock viens running through the area are really interesting and adds to the experience. We would definitely stay here again.

Lots of nice trails, including one right out of the campground. Drive back through Quitaque to the south for a few miles and bike on the Caprock Rail Trail down to the old railroad tunnel where bats have made their home. Knowing that you’re walking through bat guano was a little disturbing. Be sure to bring a face mask for the trek through the tunnel. The smell was still bad and we didn’t want to breathe any more of that guano than we had to.
Can’t miss seeing the bison, they take over the roads and patience is a must. Also Prairie Dog Town right next to the campground. The lake nearby, we’ll that’s so-so. Did see 2 people SUP on it, but I wouldn’t swim in it even though they say you can.
Bathrooms were clean.
With Verizon in site 4 I had not coverage until we out the booster up. In site 16, had some coverage but still needed the booster. Not sure why the difference.

What an incredible spot to camp! The bison heard came through camp, but they didn’t pay us humans much attention. It was very easy to access and had RV parking outside the park office to make check in easy. We did not use the facilities, which were a bit dated and not the greatest. Our site had nice space between us and our neighbors and we were close to the beginning of the Rim Trail. There was a great little cafe in town, Bison Cafe, that had a good lunch menu and the hiking was incredible. When looking at the price of the sites, keep in mind they charge an additional $5/person/night access fee, so this added $30 to our 3 night stay for the two of us. Also, be prepared to be disconnected. We only had an occasional single bar of LTE with Verizon. Other than the “hidden” fees, we can not recommend this stop enough for travelers crossing through the Texas panhandle. Our biggest regret was not staying longer. We will be back.

The T Mobile service was a surprise. It was between 3-4 bars. It was strong enough to stream using a Mofi cell router with paddle antennas.

Do not tent camp here. They will mislead you and then give you a huge fine!!! When we booked the campsite as a fun activity for our pandemic fatigued 6-year old granddaughter, they told me our car would be close to our campsite. We get there at 4 on a Friday afternoon in November and we were the only people in sight! When we booked, they told us to go into the park and find our tent site by ourselves because park personnel were avoiding interacting due to Covid. We got to our sight and found the gate locked to the whole area. It was clear people had driven around the gate several times. Thinking they had forgotten their sole campers for the night and had not come and unlocked the gate, we drove around it. We were very concerned about having to put up the tent in the dark, which was descending upon us. We went down a road to our campsite. While we were unloading, a state police officer came and gave us a $200 fine for going around the gate. It was devastating and disappointing. We wanted our granddaughter to have some fun during all the pandemic restrictions. We were treated horribly.
