We used GMRS walkie talkies to communicate when someone was on a trail.

What an incredible spot to camp! The bison heard came through camp, but they didn’t pay us humans much attention. It was very easy to access and had RV parking outside the park office to make check in easy. We did not use the facilities, which were a bit dated and not the greatest. Our site had nice space between us and our neighbors and we were close to the beginning of the Rim Trail. There was a great little cafe in town, Bison Cafe, that had a good lunch menu and the hiking was incredible. When looking at the price of the sites, keep in mind they charge an additional $5/person/night access fee, so this added $30 to our 3 night stay for the two of us. Also, be prepared to be disconnected. We only had an occasional single bar of LTE with Verizon. Other than the “hidden” fees, we can not recommend this stop enough for travelers crossing through the Texas panhandle. Our biggest regret was not staying longer. We will be back.

The T Mobile service was a surprise. It was between 3-4 bars. It was strong enough to stream using a Mofi cell router with paddle antennas.

I stayed in Honey Flatts. The campsite was big with little to no shade. The bathroom looks old but it is clean.

Check-in was seamless. Although Honeyflat was almost full, you do not feel crowded as the sites are separated quite nicely. There are trees between the sites, so you are not looking into each other's space. Our site was back in. We had no issues leveling out, and the other sites seemed pretty flat. Each site has ample open area to spread out should you wish. The picnic table is covered to provide shade. Electrical and water connections were easily accessible. There is no sewer hook up, but the dump station is a short distance away with easy access.
It is a five-minute walk to our site's restroom/shower facility—ample amount of stalls with three sinks. We stayed for four nights, and it was kept clean and stocked the entire time. There are three shower stone stalls -- if you like hot showers, you will be in heaven :) Although, with 100+ degree weather, the cold shower worked best.
We hiked all the trails, despite the 100+ degree days during our stay. We just got up early and got back in before 1 PM. Trails are marked nicely. You really can't get lost -- well, take that back -- on the upper South Prong trail, climbing up the rock face -- because of the steepness and turns, you have to look for the pole markers.
Bison run free throughout the park, even on the roads. You will enjoy the prairie dogs -- the colony surrounds the restroom/shower facility.
Have fun!
FYI -- our nightly rate may be lower, we have a Texas State Annual Pass.

Canyon drive into the camping area is really beautiful. This would have been a perfect spot if we brought horses, but Honey Flats was full, and the Equestrian area was all that was available on April 17th, 2022 for our T@B 320CS trailer. So if you are camping here, there are no amenities and you need to be self-sufficient, no potable water, and fire ban was in effect. As a result, this area was very isolated, and quiet save for one couple in a tent, and another in a tear drop. Road in in rugged. Sites are mostly shaded w/picnic table. Endless hiking trails in and around the campgrounds. Temps were 40's at night high 60's during the day. Bison are everywhere and not timid as they are tended to by humans, but suggest staying clear. There are bathrooms and showers at the Honey Flats camping area which you drive past as you go to the Equestrian sites.

Easy check in, but you must go into the visitor center. Sites are spacious and the electric (30 amp) and water worked well. Bathrooms and shower were OK, with lots of hot water and were heated in cold weather. The temperature while we were here (mid-April) varied greatly from 40 to 95 degrees. It was windy for several days we were here, 25 mph winds.
A prairie dog town near the bathroom was interesting and bison roamed through the bathroom area.
Lots of great hiking in the park. Haynes Ridge offered a strenuous climb and awesome overlooks.
Get your groceries before you come but there is a small grocery in town and one restaurant in town. Turkey, Texas is about 15 minutes away and has several more restaurants. No noise just birds and wind.
AT&T cell service was spotty, sometimes good and sometimes non-existent. The wifi from the bathroom did work fairly well. Several HDTV channels came in.

At night, you can hear tons of coyotes in the area. It was incredible. Our site had plenty of privacy with a decent amout of space between sites. The sites come with a fire pit, lantern/trash post and a picnic table with a sun shelter and wind guard. It was fairly level. One bar of verizon which went in and out and no bars of tmobile. Did better with at&t with a consistent two bars. We did some amazing hikes!

Do not tent camp here. They will mislead you and then give you a huge fine!!! When we booked the campsite as a fun activity for our pandemic fatigued 6-year old granddaughter, they told me our car would be close to our campsite. We get there at 4 on a Friday afternoon in November and we were the only people in sight! When we booked, they told us to go into the park and find our tent site by ourselves because park personnel were avoiding interacting due to Covid. We got to our sight and found the gate locked to the whole area. It was clear people had driven around the gate several times. Thinking they had forgotten their sole campers for the night and had not come and unlocked the gate, we drove around it. We were very concerned about having to put up the tent in the dark, which was descending upon us. We went down a road to our campsite. While we were unloading, a state police officer came and gave us a $200 fine for going around the gate. It was devastating and disappointing. We wanted our granddaughter to have some fun during all the pandemic restrictions. We were treated horribly.
