Campground Closure Stats This Week
While it pains us to flag a campground as closed in the Campendium database, we hope to make it easier for those who haven’t found somewhere to shelter-in-place, to find a place. Recreational camping is not advisable during this time.
- Over 26% of RV parks, campgrounds and dispersed camping locations in the United States listed on Campendium are closed or operating with restrictions.
- Most National Park campgrounds in the U.S. are closed and thirty-two states have closed their all of their state park campgrounds.
- Over 20% of campgrounds in Canada are closed, including National Park and most Provincial Park campgrounds.
You can search for campgrounds that are known to be open during the coronavirus pandemic by using the filter on the Campendium search results page to “exclude temporarily closed locations.” Recreational camping is not advisable during this time.
Campground Openings
Many industry organizations have been advocating that RV parks and campgrounds be deemed “essential business.” As a result, we have seen campgrounds or RV parks permitted to remain open in the following states:
- Pennsylvania is qualifying private RV parks as ‘essential’ on a case-by-case basis. Private non-residential RV parks are closed. Be sure to call any park you are interested in staying at for their current status.
- New York has deemed private campgrounds and RV parks to be essential infrastructure.
- Private RV parks in Oregon, catering to self-contained units, may remain open. Some cities or counties are, however, implementing closures extending to privately run facilities.
- The state of Washington has declared private RV parks to be essential services. Private parks may remain open for non-recreational purposes, to act as residences, unless the county or city in which they reside has ruled they must close.
