Brad and Maggie’s Favorite Camping Gear

Maggie & Brad Wanderland Travelers

Hi! We’re Brad and Maggie and we’ve been on the road since May 2016. We are so grateful that we can find amazing (and often free!) campsites thanks to Campendium. We downsized from a Class A motorhome to a travel trailer a year ago to be more off-road friendly and now we feel like we’ve really honed our rig for off-grid living. Here are some of the items that make our traveling – and boondocking – life that much better.

ROCKPALS 500W Portable Power Station, 540Wh Lithium Battery Solar Generator Backup Power Supply

ROCKPALS 500W Power Station

We rely on solar power most of the time and since we don’t have a generator we needed a way to get us through extended cloudy days. This power station can simultaneously power your items while being charged itself. It has USB-C as well as several other input options and it’s highly portable. We can charge it using our ground deploy solar panels, by plugging it into our truck or using any regular wall outlet.

Travel Berkey Gravity-Fed Water Filter with 2 Black Berkey

Berkey Water Filtering System

It is really important to us to know we are drinking safe water anywhere we go. We really love our Berkey because these filters last for several years, they are easy to clean, and they filter out 99.9999% of viruses, bacteria, heavy metals, pharmaceuticals, and more. This 1.5 gallon size is perfect for us and we added a simple strap to hold it in place while traveling.

Zray Inflatable Paddle Board Stand Up SUP

Zray Inflatable Stand-Up Paddle Board

We love how stowable and convenient inflatable watercraft are and we chose this paddle board because it’s lightweight and the bag has backpack straps for any time you might want to hike with it – although at 25lbs we wouldn’t take it too far! The stability is great and we opted for the model with an attachable kayak seat.

Reliance Products Desert Patrol 6 Gallon Rigid Water Container

6-Gallon Water Jugs

Our portable water jugs (we have two) have been a real asset when we aren’t hooked up to city water. They allow us to get water from places that we can’t easily pull the trailer up to, we can pick up extra water while we’re out running errands, and it means we can bring 12 additional gallons when we head to a new boondocking spot. We used to have soft-sided jugs which ended up getting leaks so we love how heavy duty these are.

Mad Mats Oriental Turkish Indoor/Outdoor Floor Mat

Mad Mats Outdoor Rug

We actually resisted an outdoor rug for a long time because, well, we’re thrifty but creating an inviting outdoor space encourages us to enjoy our surroundings even more. We love the colorful patterns available with this brand and the fact that it’s reversible. It was also one of the more affordable options for outdoor rugs but best of all it’s made from 100% recycled materials.

ENO, Eagles Nest Outfitters DoubleNest Lightweight Camping Hammock

Eno Hammock

We love this hammock because it’s ultra-lightweight, easy to stow, easy to hang, and comes in a variety of colors. The ‘double nest’ version can support up to 400 pounds and we’ve even found a way to hang it between our truck and trailer so we can enjoy almost anywhere we are. Straps are sold separately.

Capresso 5-Cup Mini Drip Coffee Maker

Capresso Coffee Maker

Once we downsized into our travel trailer we knew we needed a different coffee maker that could fit in a smaller kitchen cabinet. This 5-cup maker is the perfect size plus it can be programmed to auto-start (when you’re plugged into shore power) and has its own basket filter so you don’t need single-use filters.

VIAIR 400P Portable Compressor

Viair Portable Air Compressor

Being able to add or remove air from your tires is pretty important whether you’re off-roading, stuck in the sand, or just need to top off. This compressor has enough capacity to handle high-psi motorhome tires. As a side note, we would also highly recommend a tire pressure monitoring system so you know right away if you are losing air.

Wall-Hanging-Planter, iKusor Self-Watering-Planter and Window Flower-Pot

Wall Mounted Planters

These are an easy way to get more plants in your rig without having to shuffle them around on travel days. They are lightweight plastic but look surprisingly nice. There’s a hole up the top for a screw and then we also used Command velcro strips to help secure them in place.

Pull Down Kitchen Sink Faucet -Arofa

Arofa Kitchen Faucet

The original faucet that came with our trailer was really low making it difficult to wash some of our larger cookware. When we did our renovation it was an easy decision to go with a gooseneck faucet. This one in particular has a great price, looks fantastic and we love that the handle can be placed in front or on the side, whichever works best for your space. With the right hose adapters, this was an easy swap.
