Eighty three campgrounds received 5 star reviews in December. Check out the highlights below:

wanee-lake-golf-course-and-rv-park
Wanee Lake Golf Course & RV Park – Ashburn, GA

We stay here everytime we pass through southern Georgia. For a golfer this is a dream park. We always stay in the first row which right off the first tee. – John and Pam

plomosa-road-blm
Plomosa Road – Quartzsite, AZ

There are hundreds of sites to be had although that will probably change at the end of January when the big show starts. For now it is peaceful and pretty. – Gonewalkabout

rose-valley-campground
Rose Valley Campground – Ojai, CA

It’s my understanding that Rose Valley Campground will be a pay campground, but when I was there it was still free. I would definitely stay here again, even if I have to pay. – jose

ghost-ranch
Ghost Ranch – Abiquiu, NM

The scenery is spectacular. Famous artist, Georgia O’Keeffe, had a home here and created many of her amazing paintings here. – Greg – Sock Monkey Trekker

rutherford-beach
Rutherford Beach – Creole, LA

This is a great spot that can easily accomodate at least 5 big rigs on hard pack sand (actually, it’s not sand but crushed shells). – Road it up

imperial-dam-ltva
Imperial Dam LTVA – Winterhaven, CA

This is one of our favorite boondocking sites now. Quiet nights, dark skies, friendly happy campers….yeah, this is exactly what we look for when boondocking! – Rich

whitney-pocket
Whitney Pocket – Bunkerville, NV

Whitney Pocket is an excellent example of the best that BLM has to offer in the high desert. The views are spectacular, the topography is breathtaking and it’s FREE! – Dirty Rotten Racklefrack

georgia-veterans-state-park
Georgia Veterans State Park – Cordele, GA

About two dozen of the sites are directly on the lake, and you can pull your boat up onto shore. Both times we stayed, there were very few campers during our stay, and it was blissfully quiet. – Trexpodition

usery-mountain-regional-park
Usery Mountain Regional Park – Mesa, AZ

The campground is extremely well run. The bathrooms and showers are clean and well maintained. We’ve seen bobcats, coyotes and roadrunners. This has been a real gem. – Loup407

stevens-pass-ski-resort-rv-parking
Stevens Pass Ski Resort RV Parking – Leavenworth, WA

If you’re a skier and you have an RV, the Steven’s Pass Ski resort RV parking lot is a great destination. You can walk or ski right to the ski lift. – Mike S

Saddle Mountain – Tonopah, AZ

The sunrise and sunsets are beautiful here. You really couldn’t ask for more than this if you are looking for a boondocking spot not too far from Phoenix. – Gonewalkabout

Lone Rock Beach – Big Water, UT

Lone Rock was one of the highlights of our trip. What more could a couple of adventurists ask for? Kayaking, ATVing, fishing, photography! – His and Hers Alaska

Marfa Lights Viewing Center – Marfa, TX

We spent the night here to watch the Marfa Lights. The mystery of the lights had us hooked and we had to see them for ourselves. We spent the evening watching the sunset and lights from our roof and it was incredible. – 188sqft

DuPuis Reserve Campground – Indiantown, FL

This was our first time camping at one of Florida’s free state-run campgrounds, but certainly not our last. Everything about this experience was great. – WatsonsWander

Jalama Beach County Park – Lompoc, CA

My #1 favorite beach to camp! Very clean, amazing beaches, the sunsets, today it’s 68 degrees…in December. – LAPDWIFE

State Line Campground – Kanab, UT

Very nice facilities considering the remoteness, with fire rings, BBQs, and shade structures. We were lucky enough to draw a permit to hike to The Wave. It was absolutely incredible, see it if you get the chance! – NapaTony

Valley of Fires Recreation Area – Carrizozo, NM

At the south end of the park road are several nicely spaced out private tent sites. Great overnighter on the way to Bosque del Apache. Short but worthwhile nature loop over the lava field. – Chas

Fernan Saddle – Coeur d’Alene, ID

Lots of dispersed camping spots, secluded with beautiful views of the valley! – Emily
