5 Star Campground Reviews – October 2018

By Campendium

Five hundred twenty seven campgrounds received 5 star reviews in September! Check out some of the highlights below.

Half Moon Pond State Park – Fair Haven, VT

Half Moon Pond was beautiful, tranquil, and perfect for a calming get away. I loved it and will most definitely will be back, only for longer next time. – Jenn Stillman

Ross Lake Campground – Melstrand, MI

Ross Lake Campground is off the beaten path, three miles off the main road which travels through the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. We arrived at the campground late in the afternoon on Sept 22 and had the entire campground to ourselves. – RidingRoadsAndTrails

Camp One | Jackson Demonstration State Forest – Fort Bragg, CA

We loved this campground! We stayed in Roundhouse 1 which was fairly level and large. The camp is grouped into sections (i.e. Roundhouse, Wagon, Tin Can) and each section has atleast 2-3 campsites which would be great for groups. – thejacksonfives

Lake Bistineau State Park – Doyline, LA

This is a very beautiful park! We were only here for one night but still had the opportunity to see a deer run through camp while cooking breakfast! We look forward to a longer return visit! – Dude RV

Nolan Tank | Coconino National Forest – Sedona, AZ

We camped at the base of a hill and hiked up to the top of it several times, up top you can see for miles. Camping was private and the stars were amazing. – Missfit2750

Kanakadea Park | County Park – Hornell, NY

Very convenient access off freeway for one night stop over. We stopped here for one night in October on our way to Woodstock. Looks like a nice place to walk around along the lake. – Luvinature

Kirk Creek Campground | Los Padres National Forest – Big Sur, CA

Five star review even with no cell service for miles- it’s that good. The views are amazing. There is so much to do in the area that even with our week long stay we didn’t do it all. – Vicaribus

Margaret McKenny Campground | Capitol State Forest – Olympia, WA

We have a 32′ travel trailer that sits lower to the ground than we’d like, so finding free boondocking with easy access is a big deal. We were there in the off season, so we had our pick of the sites, and it was incredibly quiet. – BigVanandaTinCan

Speegleville Park | Waco Lake Recreation Area – Waco, TX

An unexpected find! The sites are far apart and spacious with plenty of parking, covered picnic table and grill. No traffic noise, just the sound of the crickets at night! Very peaceful. – MomaJeep

Balloon Fiesta South RV Lot | Event Campground – Albuquerque, NM

From having an easy roll out of bed and head to the fiesta without the stress of traffic, to the sitting outside of our RV and watching the sun come up and balloons go directly over our site while we just relax with our coffee the whole thing was overwhelming! – EllieO

Tolkan Campground | BLM – Garberville, CA

The campground itself is awesome. VERY quiet and we had 16 people and 7 dogs there. The 11 mile MTB loop is awesome as is the terrain park and pump track. The hike down to the beach is a strenuous 10 miles, but also something awesome to do. – NickRPS

Angel Peak | BLM – San Juan, NM

This is a beautiful, primitive CG! Sites on the north side of the loop have the best views. There’s good ATT and Verizon coverage. We had planned to stay for one night and extended our stay to 2 nights. Great place to chill! – dsvt

Cape Ann Camp Site – Gloucester, MA

Pretty view overlooking the tidal river. The best part was the camp owner and ALL of his amazing suggestions from getting a 3-4 lb lobster from Roy Moore’s Lobster Shack in Rockport to the Haddock chowder at the Causeway in Gloucester Harbor. Would highly recommend! – TheWorldExplored

Eel Creek Campground | Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area – Lakeside, OR

Not only are most of the sites setup to have private areas but the dunes were in our front yard. We even moved our camp chairs up on the dune to get some sun since it is October and the weather is constantly changing. – LivingWithTheEssentials

Castle Mound Campground | Black River State Forest – Black River Falls, WI

We arrived mid week to a mostly empty campground. All sites were in trees but with enough to room to handle units much larger than ours, a 21 ft TT. – Dennis F

McDowell Mountain Regional Park – Scottsdale, AZ

“The scenery that surrounds this campground is overwhelmingly beautiful. Camp hosts keep the sites and bathrooms super clean, and they enforce the rules in order to keep things looking good so that everyone has an awesome experience. Plenty of trails to hike or bike. Love it!” – 4airstreamers

Centennial Municipal Campground – New Denver, BC, Canada

“We spent a long afternoon with kids playing on the lakeside and taking in the amazing views of Valhalla Provincial Park. There is also a pretty Japanese garden right beside it commemorating Japanese Canadians interred in New Denver during WWII.” – Adventures of Dave and Ann

Potrero County Park – Potrero, CA

“Lovely park, friendly staff, level sites. This is a common stop for those headed to Mexico, we met many rigs headed down the Baja crossing at Tecata only a mile away.” – Millerfamily04

Cottonwood Campground | Navajo Lake State Park – Blanco, NM

“Lots of shade, clean, water and electric hook ups with dump station on the way out. Great AT&T cell service. Love this place.” – Mike

Oliver Reservoir State Recreation Area – Kimball, NE

“Great free campground on the water. The campground is huge and we were the only people on the whole place.” – LC

Peters Point Beachfront Park | County Park – Fernandina Beach, FL

The weather was just perfect. We got a chance to witness a beach wedding and people horseback riding on the beach. Pretty cool to see. Overall, a great experience and will definitely be back. – theGREAT_Lek

Monahans Sandhills State Park – Monahans, TX

This place was great. We camped right in the dunes and it was a quick walk and we were surrounded by the dunes and sledding down on our sleds. – Cc
