“Gate was closed - 9-2-21”
Reviewed 9/2/2021
I went up to check out the campsite and the gate off of Highway 20 was closed. Not sure if it is just because of recent fires in California? 🤷🏻♂️

i stayed here on 6/22/21 in roundhouse site 3. overall my experience was fine but i got strange vibes from the area. the people occupying the other two sites were very odd. i got the sense from their set ups that they had been there a while and planned to stay even a while longer. they didn't talk to me or bother me but i just felt strange around them. the site had so many misquitos so i didn't spend very much time outside of my car. i had planned and payed for two nights but only stayed for one. i left quite early in the morning because i felt incredibly isolated there. there was absolutely no at&t service and i had to drive all the way into town to get any connection. getting to the campground was very easy, the campendium directions took me right there. the pit toilets were the cleanest and nicest ive ever seen. they were made with real wood so the woody smell gets rid of any waste odor. the sites are all huge with no garbage at all. there are many garbage cans in the campground as well. while it wasn't a bad site i just didn't like it. it didn't feel inviting at all.

We loved this campground! We stayed in Roundhouse 1 which was fairly level and large. Look for the brown sign that says "seasoned wood" - it's the real deal!!
This is a "working forest" so some areas may be closed for logging the Jackson State Forest website has them listed online. It's also a seasonal campground and they closed October 1st. If you are coming from Willits, it looks like you can take a short cut near Whiskey Springs...you can't. It's gated. Keep going towards mile marker 5ish which has a sign for Camp One.

Almost no signage. At mile marker 5.9 on highway 20 then 3 miles down a dirt road. Campsites are large and quite dispersed. A few are by themselves with no neighbors for a hundred yards. Mostly shaded and on the creeks. If you go during the week you should have your choice of sites, but they fill up by Friday afternoon. First come, first served. No water available but if you are coming from Willits (highway 101) there is a free sani-dump and free water at the Safeway in Willits. Each site has table, fire ring, and bbq. There is garbage pick-up and clean outhouses. You will hear logging trucks several times per day. We have a 24 foot trailer and are newbies at backing in. Most sites are large enough for that size trailer or slightly larger. I would park at the day use area and walk around the various side roads to check out the sites before committing. Don't believe the board at the fee station that says which sites are occupied. Just go see for yourself. This is our new favorite campground in northern California. Shhh. Don't tell.
