We were headed here from Canyon Lake near Mesa but road closed from fire damage so we went the long way but it is super sweet. The lower campground is dispersed and some great spots on water. The upper has reserved and ff sites. Several are right on the water. Beautiful area. Road isn’t as bad as we expected from the reviews.

A long bumpy road there. Max speed 15 mph. We settled in spot 37 which was gorgeous. But chilly and windy. Warmed up but the lack of cell service and promise of chilly winds picking up again led us to pull out and go to Frazier campground. Would be the perfect spot for some. Just not us at the time. I couldn’t find this information anywhere else so I wanted to share it. I personally hauled a 33 ft travel trailer here and it was not bad at all. I also saw a few Class A’s that were close to 40 feet and a lot of class C that were 25-35 feet long. Plenty of spaces that are large enough to accommodate large rigs. As long as you are willing to brave the rough drive of 6 miles, it is worth it!
I would definitely recommend getting there early for a weekend like on a Thursday. I just went in March and it was almost sold out. Bathrooms are great and they have water spigots where you can fill some aquatainers to get some water back into rig. This is some great boondocking and there is NO cell service for all carriers.

Spectacular! Off the charts beautiful. This campground is accessed easiest from the east. We had a 28' toy hauler and the road is very narrow in places, but doable. 2nd week of February and it was pretty deserted. March gets busy with spring break younger crowd. Water available. Nice clean toilets. Dump stations available on Roosevelt Lake nearby. Pretty much off the grid. Campsites right on the water. No Tonto Pass needed. Use Credit Card vending for payment. Very easy.
