We were going to stay but when we arrived we could not find a camp host as well as a few homeless people living there. The real game changer were the million bugs flying around. Too bad as it looked pretty near the water

Stopped here in May 2023 while driving the Natchez Trace Parkway. As others have said, get here early in the day and you can get one of the 4 waterfront spots. When we were here there were still 4-5 spots open at 7pm. It seems to be mostly a locals park as the Trace Parkway is closed nearby due to construction.

Grounds keeper is the best! The place is so beautiful. Temp says It’s 94 but feels like 85 in the shade. It’s currently free to stay with only water hookups but not for long keeper says it’s turning to paid soon and will have electricity hookups.

Beautiful Area right on the Tennessee River. Quite far from any civilization/grocery store but well worth this day. Would be a nice spot to stop if you were traveling the Natchez Trace. Our rig is quite long, so we had to work to find a spot. The maintenance guy at the maintenance building said that a big rig had camped in the front field in the summer when the ground was very dry. He really recommended, though, that we go to the second loop because the bathrooms there have hot showers. Only cold showers in the front bathroom. We knew we could not make it all the way around the second loop due to a narrow culvert on the last part of the loop (we scouted the area a few days ago in our van) but we were able to do a three point turn and back into a curved pull through.
The bathhouse is amazingly clean and is well stocked. As others said, it looks like there are several people living here. Besides the generators occasionally, it is very quiet and peaceful.
There are plenty of mature pines to use for hanging hammocks.
We had the opportunity to clean up quite a bit of garbage at our site, but that was well worth a free site in such a beautiful area.

We saw from other reviews that the facilities may not be open. But we didn't realize the campground may also be closed. When we pulled in & saw the gate to the camping area up front was closed & locked we stopped & talked to the guys in the maintenance building. Very nice guys! They let us know that there is a Facebook page for the town & they had just updated that they would be opening that Friday. We didn't know about the FB page, so posting here in case others want to find it & check it before going. It appears they close in October (picture of the sign from 2020 included).
So after talking to the maintenance guys we were given permission to stay in the boat launch area. They said we could stay until the campground opened on Friday. But we just stayed for 2 nights & made our way to our next spot.
There were others staying in the boat launch area as well. Tent campers & car/van campers. Mississippi Red was there. Guess he's well known in that area? He showed us his truck camper set up.
We are in a 40ft motorhome towing a 24ft enclosed trailer. We fit in the boat launch area. We would have fit in the upfront camping area. Not sure about the camping in the back, since it was closed we didn't get to check it out. The maintenance guy said there is a dump station over there.

We came at night time and ended up spending the night at the boat ramp, the campground is closed for winter with a little sign. No one bothered us, but wish we stayed longer if it was opened.

Beautiful peaceful place right on the water. Ran into some very friendly locals that seemed to be living there. Would definitely return if I’m ever back in the area.
