“Magical, and magically crowded”

The Good: The Brush Creek dispersed camping area is beautiful and you can find sites tucked away from the "RV City" open field. Gorgeous mountain views in all directions. World class mountain biking and running for ever. Short drive into Crested Butte proper for fresh water, food, general civilization. Our site had a trap down to the river with pretty nice trout pools.

The stuff you can live with: zero cell service, wildly uneven sites (bring your leveling blocks and a mind for adventure!) Beyond the main dispersed area are several more sites along the road, but you will need an overlanding rig to get there.

The not great but what can you do: this place is far from a secret. Even mid-week it was busy. Saturday brought a crush of people- MTB, runners, and many groups of ATV renters. All this traffic was respectful of the campsites, but it was a ton of traffic!

“Beautiful location, expect lots of campers”

There are two primary boondocking locations on Brush Creek Road. The first one is at the initial NF boundary and is the one pictured in the video and original pictures. There were at least 6 separate parties camped there when we arrived on a Sunday afternoon in early August. We drove further, past the private property, to a large area on the right at about mile 6, where the road becomes Perl Pass Road, and is no longer passable for trailers or RVs. There were about a dozen separate campers there, a mix of RVs and tents. You can likely find room to set up, but don't expect privacy or quiet. The area is heavily used for camping, biking, off roading, horseback riding, ATVs and motorbikes. In the summer there are porta-potties to accommodate the heavy use. The views are beautiful, and we enjoyed our stay, but you'll be sharing this lovely place with many others in the summer. No signal, not a chance.
