On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday it was really nice. Friday and Saturday nights it was a non stop Hispanic Party well into the night. I would not stay here ever again on a weekend. The Sheriff rode through several times during the day but I never saw them do anything.

The beach filled up during the day (spring break week) but there were only a few campers at night. There was even an icecream truck driving the beach several times throughout the day. We read some reviews about bad mosquitoes but we never saw one bug. It’s amazing that camping is allowed right on the beach and it’s free. There are trash cans too. AT&T worked fine for us. We will definitely make a point of returning here in the future.

Fully packed sand. No issues getting ir or out nor driving on the beach.
Spend an afternoon and one night with my dogs.
There were a few RVs camping nearby. Safe and quiet.
I camped the second week of February so it was on the cold side, but I was looking for a little bit of solitude to relax, read and run.
Excellent ATT coverage.

Just make sure you are out of the city limits. Turn left at the red light after the bridge. Look for the "Freeport City Limits" sign. We entered access 2 but I believe there are 5 different ones to use. A lot cleaner and nicer than Galveston!
Just note, the mosquitoes were no joke so be sure to bring something for those!

Enter at Access Road #1. There will also be a large Brazoria Beach sign at this beach entry. See photos. There was a few other rv’ers, vans and big rigs, but lots of room. No permit required. Felt safe, this area is quite isolated, just a lot of local fishers. We stayed one night and the local Sheriff cruised the beach in the morning and came to say hello and see where we were from. Beautiful sunny morning for coffee time and shell picking.

NOTE: where the pin is for this is NOT free camping but within Surfside city limits. You CANNOT stay overnight within surfside city limits. Access the beach from the coordinates at seagull avenue. Turn left. Keep going until you pass the signs saying “Surfside city limits”. Otherwise you WILL get the knock like I did, even in off season. Patrolled regularly, although the police were very polite even at 0100.
I stayed overnight without a permit. Will likely pick up one the next day to continue my stay as I arrived late.

The problems were mosquitoes and somebody shooting a gun at approximately 4am.. there were about 6 or 7 shots.. sounded like it was trying to kill something (or someone. lol) Pretty creepy when you are laying in a tent with your family to hear shooting. You going to crawl out of the tent with a flashlight to see what's going on? Now we are rethinking the tent and considering a travel trailer. :)

We've camped here many times. The sunrises are amazing and post card worthy. Depending on the tides and the direction of the wind, the beaches can be wide or not so wide. Pay attention to the weather. SE winds and high tides will push the water onto the beach. If you're lucky enough to arrive right after a cool front with a northerly wind, the surf will lay down and the beach will be very very wide.
Overall our experiences here have been great. We try to arrive on a Sunday afternoon to find the typical crowds that you would expect. And as expected, the crowds leave as the weekend ends and we have the beach to ourselves. It's amazing.
During the week (off season), the beach is deserted. In the afternoons the locals wander out to enjoy this amazing resource as they should. Even then no one was parked within a 1/2 mile of our campsite. We enjoyed the sun and the waves, exchanging pleasantries with the folks as they drove by.
Yes the mosquitos come out at dawn and dusk for a couple of hours. Moreso at dusk. There isn't enough bug spray to win that battle... go inside if you can.
