Loved it here. Had an outside ring site in the non-reservable area. Overlooked the lake that was a little down but great view anyways. Could get a little windy but keeps bugs down. The campground hosts are friendly. Restrooms could have used a little more attention on some days, but overall the campground is clean. Short hiking t... more

The campground is well maintained, camp host drives by daily to check grounds, bathroom were always well stocked, and walking trails were clear. The lake can be accessed from several points, so it’s never overcrowded or feels busy. Great place to fish or chill in or by the lake. You can expect to see plenty of rabbits, roadrunners and ... more

“Lovely and reasonably priced state park, wind can be crazy though”

Beautiful park to stay. We were slated to stay 4 nights but the day we were leaving was going to be 50mph winds so we stayed 2 more nights. Easy access to town and the caverns (about an hour drive). Ranger frequently drives by and everything was quiet. We have a covered patio and picnic bench which was nice. We were in site #22 on the ... more

The positives: proximity to Carlsbad, quiet, water at site, dump station. Negatives: wind, wind, wind but mostly the unclean and unserviced bathrooms!!! We saw the host's corvette, jet skis, rv and 4 wheeler, and it looked like he/she was hosting company by all the cars around, but never saw the host or anyone caring about the trash b... more

We stayed at this park for a week in late March/early April 2018 in Site 17. The park is far away from any road noise situated on Brantley Lake. The sites are very roomy and spread out. We had water and 50 amp but no sewer, a nice picnic table shelter with a wind blocking wall. The bathrooms and showers were clean and included a han... more

We used the New Mexico State Park reservation system, only because I am the type to plan trips thoroughly. We have stayed there three times now. Once just my little family of four in a tent years ago. Once with a large group of international and local college students as the faculty mentors. and most recently as just the 3 of us, on... more

Arrived mid afternoon on a Sunday in March. All the trash cans were overflowing and that’s to be expected on a Sunday, but they weren’t emptied until Tuesday morning and in the meantime trash blew all over the campground. No one attempted to pick any of it up. The bathrooms were pretty dirty as well and the interior walls needed a pain... more

Great quite park. Miles from the main road. Site 24 has a 50 foot pad and easily accommodated our 40ft 5th wheel, semi truck toter, and a full size passenger van. No laundry. No staff in the office during the off season.

Drove in late at night and luckily found a spot. The location is nice, the view is vast dessert terrain with a decently sized lake.
