“small camp, great hiking nearby”

The campground is small, only a handful of sites. A couple of the sites are large enough to accommodate a trailer but the road leading up here can be rough with some tight turns so scout out the area without the trailer first. There can be a lot of traffic in the area during the day - lots of picnickers and hikers. Things quiet down at night. The parking pads are all gravel and back in only, most have some slope to them. Since the forest service recommends tent camping only up here it's surprising that there are no tent pads, only parking spaces, at each site. There is a water pump in the center of the camp loop and two pit toilets. The forest service doesn't come through the area very often so don't be surprised if the bathrooms are a little dirty and out of TP. No garbage service in the area. The mosquitoes and horse flies in the area are relentless so you'll want to bring lots of bug repellant. Three sites are next to the lake, one in full sun and the others in the shade. The three sites further away from the lake are all shady.
The hike west of the lake is worth the trek, especially in early July when the wildflowers are in bloom.

“Comfortable evening on lower lake”

The designated campground was full, so we scoped out an established fire ring on the lower lake. we had to walk about 800 ft from our car to set up camp but ended up in a gorgeous, semi covered spot right on the lake. The hike up the ridge the following day was lovely.
Only negatives- had to hike up to the upper site to use the facilities and there were some loud folks both nights- not a secluded spot at all.
The road up is long but my 4 door sedan handled it like a champ.
Laurie would stay here again
